Effective Skin And Face Care Methods Skin Types
There are several different classifications for skin types and these
are all determined according to the amount of oil that your skin
produces.
Your skin type will also affect the types of problems you might have to endure throughout various stages of your life.
Normal skin will have medium sized pores and an even texture.
This is obviously the ideal skin and will appear smooth and healthy looking.
This skin will have good circulation and color and the only area where
there might be a problem is a tendency to become a little dry around
the cheeks.
Oily skin on the other hand will show in a more shiny skin tone and the
larger pores that are associated with oily skin will also make
blackheads and blemishes more prevalent.
Dry skin will feel tight and more so after cleansing.
It will be more prone to fine wrinkles, red patches and flaking.
It can also appear dull, and to some extent this is due to the buildup of dead skin.
Sensitive skin is delicate, thin and has fine pores.
People with thin skin will appear to blush more easily and can be susceptible to rashes and other skin irritations.
Broken capillaries are also another problem that faces people with sensitive skin.
These are the main skin types but there are other factors that can affect the condition of ones skin.
Naturally your genes will determine what type of skin you are likely to
have but our lifestyle can also have a bearing on the condition of our
skin.
Stress, nutrition, medication and many more factors can change the condition of skin.
No matter what type of skin you have, addressing these issues will
ensure that you will make the most of the skin that you have inherited
and reduce the problems that are associated with your skin type.

Cleanliness and Your Skin Condition
Cleanliness is essential for maintaining healthy skin.
It is surprising how we can create problems for our skin without ever being aware of what the causes are.
Many people don't realize how many times throughout the day they touch their face with their hands.
If our hands were totally clean throughout the day this wouldn't be so much of a problem but this isn't reasonable.
We touch everything from shopping trolleys to car steering wheels that are never cleaned.
We touch items in the office or in the workplace that don't get cleaned from one month to the next.
All these germs that we pick up on our hands throughout the day get
transferred to our face whenever we touch it and from there they get
into the pores of our skin and cause irritations, blackheads and
similar skin problems.
Sometimes even the cleaners that we use on our face can cause problems,
particularly with people who have sensitive skin where many products
are too harsh.
Your skin should always be treated with care and handled delicately as
constant demands on it will mean changes that are irreversible as you
age.
With the face, where the skin is most sensitive on the majority of
people you should take extra care and this might mean making simple
changes that can have a dramatic effect over a lifetime.
Simply patting your skin to dry it, rather than rubbing it will a towel
can reduce stretching, wrinkles and more when the combined actions of
doing this are added up over a number of years.
If you find that you are getting breakouts on one side of your face or
another, then you will need to consider what might be causing this.
Do you lean on your hand at work?
Do you answer the telephone from that side all the time?
When you answer these questions you might just find what is causing
your problem and it could be as simple as having a dirty phone or dirty
hand that you always lean on.

Cleaning Your Face
You'd think that we would all know how to clean our face; after all we do it every day.
During the course of our daily routines we get a build up of many
different impurities on our face that can clog the pores and give us a
washed out complexion.
These impurities come from grime, makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum and many other sources.
Some of these are a result of the area we live in and others are a result of the way we live.
Many of us touch our face throughout the day and many impurities that
are on our hands get transferred to our face each time we touch it.
We can be in the habit of leaning on our chin at the office or even
touching between our eyebrows with the end of a finger as we adjust our
sunglasses.
All these actions can lead to a build up of dirt that can block our pores.
For these reasons it is important that we cleanse our skin, and washing
it at least twice a day is essential to keep the skin clean and healthy
and allow it to breathe.
You will need to get a skin cleanser that suits your skin, as some of them can be too harsh for people with sensitive skin.
It is best to test samples of skin cleansers after checking that you
have selected a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type.
Look at the label of the cleanser and see whether it is recommended for
sensitive skin or if it is more suitable for oilier skin types.
Sensitive skin is often drier and a cleanser for oily skin will be too harsh and could cause a reaction.
By using a suitable cleanser each night you will be washing the impurities that have built up during the day from your pores.
This will allow you to sleep with a clean pillow in the night and not
allow built up grime to create more problems for your skin.

Soap
If you are using soap on your skin rather than a skin cleanser you will
need to be very careful that you select one that is suitable for your
skin type.
Opinions on the use of soap on face skin are divided with most
beauticians recommending that a skin cleanser is more suitable for the
face.
It is true that many types of soap can be too harsh for face skin and in particular for those people who have dry complexions.
Soap does have a tendency to dry the skin out and if it is used on
someone who already has dry skin it will only intensify the condition.
For oily skin soap doesn't present as much of a problem and it can be a
suitable product to use as well as being very cost effective.
For people who are prone to acne and other skin blemishments, provided
once again that this is not the result of very sensitive skin, an
antibacterial soap can do wonders.
A more suitable product in most instances will be a skin cleanser.
Skin cleansers are available in various formulations and there should be one that will be suitable for almost any skin type.
They are milder than soap and more suitable for the face.
Other options that are well worth looking at are the complexion bars.
These bars look like a bar of soap but they are mild cleansers in the
form of a soap bar making them both convenient and excellent for
cleaning the skin.
As with liquid cleaners the complexion bars come in many different formulations targeting the various skin types.
Manufacturers all have there own slight variations so once again there
will need to be a little bit of trial and sampling to find the one that
is best for your skin.

How to Care for Your Skin
There are three main areas that are most important when caring for your skin.
Those three areas are the cleaning of your skin, the moisturizing of your skin and the protection of the skin.
It all starts with cleanliness, as the other factors can't work as well if the skin is not cleaned properly.
With all the different cleansers on the market there is enough
information to fill a book but it is worthwhile saying that you do not
have to spend lots of money to get a good quality cleanser.
Makeup will need to be dissolved with oil-based creams before the face
can be cleaned properly and then your preferred cleanser will remove
any residue that could clog up your pores.
It is important that all traces of makeup are removed before you retire
for the night as sleeping with makeup on can cause all sorts of skin
problems as it clogs the pores overnight.
A good moisturizer will then help to soften your skin and replace the natural oils that are removed by washing.
This barrier that is created by the moisturizer will help to lock in the moisture that is in your skin.
And finally you will need to protect your skin.
There is nothing that will age your skin more than leaving it unprotected against the elements.
Sunlight is good for the skin but too much will cause damage and even a
little too much can cause irreparable damage so always use sunscreen
when outdoors.
Many of the moisturizers that are worn during the day have SPF sun
protection factors and these are products that you should consider when
out and about during the day for additional protection.
Even driving a car in sunny conditions can cause sun damage so these moisturizers are particularly good to use.
Protect your lips with balms to stop them from drying out and becoming
chapped and wear sunglasses and eye creams to protect the delicate skin
around your eyes.
Your skin is precious so treat is like so.

Moisturizers
As with any other skin products there are many different moisturizers
on the market and they are all formulated to assist in different areas
of the skin.
They serve two main purposes and that is to soften the skin and help to keep moisture under the outer layer.
This will make dry skin look more hydrated and in doing so it will make your skin feel better - albeit temporarily.
There are three main areas that moisturizers are used for the face skin
and these are for the area around the eyes, the facial skin and the
skin on your neck.
All these areas of skin have slightly different characteristics and often one moisturizer isn't suitable for all areas.
The skin around the eyes is the most delicate and for this reason
moisturizers for the eyes are lighter in texture than those used for
the face.
Most people will use a different eye moisturizer than the one they will use on their face.
If you are using one moisturizer for the whole of your face you will
need to be particularly careful to choose one that won't have any
ingredients that will irritate your eyes.
As you will be leaving moisturizer on your skin throughout the day you
really need to take the time to test samples of various products until
you find the one that is most suitable.
There is an enormous array of products, and moisturizers come in all types and formulations.
The range in prices can vary considerably too but it is essential that you buy quality products when selecting a moisturizer.
While many people don't bother using a separate moisturizer for the
neck skin there are formulations that are specifically suitable for the
neck as this is an area where there are fewer oil glands and the skin
can become somewhat drier.

Normal Skin
There are certain characteristics of the various different skin types and most people fall within either of the main categories.
To determine what type of skin you have you need to look at the characteristics that you possess.
For normal skin you would have a medium to fair complexion as would be expected.
If you spend time out in the sun you would tend to burn initially
however provided you aren't exposed to the sun for extended periods you
would also develop a nice natural tan.
Your skin around the forehead and down your nose and across your chin
will tend to have slightly larger pores and this area will also be more
susceptible to skin irritations and acne although people with normal
skin will have far less problems than those with other skin types.
The skin on your cheeks can have a tendency to become a little dry but
it certainly won't be a problem in most cases and the use of a good
moisturizer will eliminate this, although once again people with normal
skin generally have good supply of natural water content in their outer
skin that will help it to remain smooth and supple most of the time.
Those fortunate people who have normal skin will also feel a slight
tightening of the skin across their cheeks when cleansing the skin.
As people with normal skin age, they will see fine lines appearing around the upper lip, forehead and around the eyes.
While normal skin is generally the easiest skin to 'maintain' there are
outside factors that can cause problems such as the weather, working
environment, the sun and all the other factors that would affect other
skin types.
If you happen to have normal skin then consider yourself lucky but
don't fail to treat it well with good cleansers, moisturizers and
toners to ensure it stays in good condition for as long as possible as
you age.

Dry Skin
Dry skin reacts somewhat differently to normal skin when exposed to the sun.
It tends to burn more easily and when it does burn it also tends to peel.
This will cause the skin to become itchy and this can also be a problem
in colder weather too when the skin can become irritated due to dryness.
Where the skin is particularly dry it can become scaly, and sometimes even chapped which will make the skin quite sore.
People with dry skin often have a fair complexion although it is not
reserved just for those who are fair as dry skin can be found on people
with any other complexion as well.
The areas across the cheeks and the forehead are those more inclined to
become dry and the cheeks will also tend to feel tight after having
been cleansed.
There are many factors that contribute to skin being dry and any skin will become somewhat drier as we age.
Those factors that can dry the skin can include the weather, the
environment that we are living in, the foods that we eat and even the
medications that we have.
People with dry skin tend to shed their skin cells in clumps rather
than cell by cell as other skin types would do and this is part of the
reason why the skin is dry.
It is not solely due to a lack of moisture as many people are lead to believe.
Moisturizers will help reduce the dryness of the skin but you will need
to be careful to select a moisturizer that will not inhibit the
shedding of the skin, as this is one of the causes of the dryness in
the first place.
Gently exfoliating the skin can help the moisturizers do their job
better but you will also need to be very careful here as well because
this can cause skin sensitivities.

Oily Skin
There are benefits and downsides to having oily skin.
One of the benefits of an oily skin is the ability to tan well and be
less affected by the effects that the sun can have on other skin types.
Another bonus to having oily skin is the fact that you are less likely to have as many facial lines as you age.
While all this sounds great there are downsides that can affect people with oily skin throughout their life.
Oily skin tends to have larger pores and along with this is a tendency
to have blackheads as the grime is caught in these open pores more
easily.
And that is not the only problem that people with oily skin have to
contend with, as they are more susceptible to breakouts than other skin
types.
People with oily skin tend to have darker complexions.
The cause of oily skin is overactive sebaceous glands that produce too much oil from enlarged pores.
Having this happen can lead people to want to over clean their skin in
an attempt to wash away the oil but this will not solve the problem.
Excessive washing will only cause the glands to create more oil and a
person with oily skin can have a shiny oily look within a very short
time of having cleansed their skin.
People with oily skin should always select products that are developed
for oily skin rather than those they might assume would be better for
their skin as the wrong formulations can often exacerbate the problems
they might be experiencing.
It is essential that people with oily skin refrain from touching their
face, particularly during times of exercise when perspiring as the
larger pores are more prone to retaining any grime that can be
transferred to the face from the hands.

Sensitive Skin
While many people might consider their skin to be sensitive the actual percentage of people with sensitive skin is quite low.
In any skin type there can be sensitivities but it is more common for people with fair skin to be sensitive.
Sensitive skin will burn more easily than other skin types when exposed
to the sun and there will also be a tendency for the skin to flush
easily.
Sensitive skin is often overly dry.
Ingredients in skin care products can cause reactions for those people
who have sensitive skin and it is wise to try small test samples of
products before spending money on any purchases.
People with sensitive skin will not only react to the ingredients in
face care products but they will also be susceptible to many other
things such as food, alcohol and changes in the season with pollens in
the air being a particular problem.
Rosacea is a common problem as is the occurrence of red capillaries on
the surface of the skin and red acne like blisters that can occur on
the face and more often across the upper chest.
People with sensitive skin tend to blush more often that other skin
types and this 'problem' is usually made worse by the persons
unwarranted embarrassment of blushing so easily.
People with sensitive skin need to use products that are very mild as almost anything can cause a reaction.
The best products are those that have the least ingredients in them,
but don't be fooled because a product is natural as some of the natural
skin care products can also be quite harsh.
Environmental affects can be magnified and rapid changes in temperature can play havoc with the skin.
If you have sensitive skin you will need to accept the fact that it
will require more care and consider trying hypoallergenic products to
see if you get better results.

As the Skin Ages
As we age our skin becomes more fragile and the things that we once took for granted need a little more care.
The care that we have given to our skin when we are younger and the
lifestyle that we lead will all have a bearing on the condition and the
maintenance of the skin as we age.
Older skin will burn more easily when exposed to the sun and it will lack the elasticity of youthful skin.
This will lead to more facial lines particularly around the eyes, mouth and the forehead.
Often the skin will become sensitive to products that were once
suitable and you will need to look at alternative products that will
account for these changes.
One of the benefits of aging is that those who were once susceptible to
breakouts will not usually experience them any longer but often there
will be something else equally annoying that will replace it.
This can be in the form of drier skin and an increase in broken and or unsightly capillaries.
The skin will also tend to lose some of its color and can become blotchy.
For those who have enjoyed a little too much sun in their youth the
skin can look quite leathery and this is also due to the increasing
dryness due to decreased blood flow and dehydration.
Age spots and broken blood vessels are other signs of age that we can
all look forward to and the need for good foundations are necessary to
cover these irregularities.
And last but not least is the effect that gravity will have on the skin that has become less elastic over the years.
It's not all bad news as there are many excellent products that can assist in the skin feeling and looking healthy at any age.
It is really just a matter of making changes to the products that you
use to allow for these changes and the right choices can only be made
by testing and choosing formulations that are designed specifically for
your changing skin type.

Exfoliation
One way to keep your skin looking healthier is to exfoliate.
Exfoliating will help to remove the dead skin cells and residue from the surface of the skin.
There are several ways that this can be done but you need to be careful
how you handle exfoliating as sometimes it can do more damage than good.
The dead skin, grime and residue that lies on the surface of the skin causes the complexion to look dull and washed out.
By removing this, the skin can look a lot fresher and healthier.
When exfoliating the facial skin you need to be particularly careful
that you don't use products that are too harsh and if you have skin
that is somewhat sensitive then you will need to check whether there is
any reddening of the skin and if so you should stop immediately.
A face cloth will be suitable for most people because it will clean the
skin while remaining gentle enough to not cause any problems with all
but the most sensitive of skins.
It is not wise to use exfoliating brushes or loofahs on your face as
these are more suitable for skin on the rest of your body that can
stand a little more abrasion without damage.
An alternative is the use of a chemical exfoliant that doesn't require
an abrasive action and will still help to remove the dead skin cells
from the surface of the skin.
Even these formulations need to be tested on a small area of the face
first as they can still cause reactions with some skin types.
There are also natural exfoliants that are very effective and while
they won't give the instant effects of some of the chemical exfoliants
and exfoliating brushes they will do an equally good job over an
extended period without causing damage to the skin.
The most popular ingredient of the natural products is papaya.

Face Masks
Face masks are another treatment used for cleansing and rejuvenating the skin.
There are various types and the most common of these are the clay or
mud masks, epidermal treatment masks, non-hardening masks and peel-off
masks.
We will look briefly at each type of mask starting with clay or mud masks.
Mud masks are used as a way to remove impurities from the skin including flaking skin, dead skin cells and even excess oil.
While these are only temporary measures they do go someway to cleansing the skin and that can only be good for you.
The mud is applied to the skin and allowed to harden for between 15 and 45 minutes.
After this the mask is washed from the skin along with the impurities.
Depending on the type of mask that you purchase they can have added ingredients that will assist with the cleansing process.
Epidermal treatment masks are somewhat more convenient and for many people more effective.
They consist of sheets that are applied to the skin.
These sheets have ingredients infused in them that assist in face
cleansing. These ingredients often include moisturizers, antioxidants
and alpha hydroxy acids.
These are good for people who have sensitive skin as they can deliver
the required cleansing properties with less chance of irritation.
They are excellent for the removal of blackheads where strips are
placed on the affected area and left to react with the dirt and sebum.
When the strip has done its job and is removed from the skin the grime will be removed with the strip.
Non-hardening masks are applied to the area to be cleaned and left for
a few minutes before being removed with a cloth along with any
impurities.
Non-hardening masks are ideal for people with sensitive skin and can be used more often than the other types of masks.
The final mask in this group is the peel-off mask.
These masks are also very convenient as they come in a tube or a bottle
as a gel and can be spread over the skin and once again left for a
short while until they dry thereby forming a skin.
This 'skin' is then peeled off the face along with the impurities that were in the pores of the face.
There are various strengths of peel-off masks and while there are many
that can be used on most skin types, people with sensitive skin need to
test first to see whether a particular brand might be too intense.

Antioxidants
Free radicals are responsible for damaging the skin.
This damage is caused by the degradation of the collagen and the
elastin in the skin, thereby reducing the skins ability to renew
damaged cells.
Antioxidants help to fight off these free radicals and are naturally occurring substances that are not harmful to the skin.
When applied directly to the skin antioxidants reduce the free radicals
and some believe that they can actually reverse mild damage that has
occurred over the years.
Skin that has been over exposed to the sun might gain some form of rejuvenation from the use of antioxidants.
The vitamins A, C and E are the most popular antioxidants used in skin
care products and these have shown in scientific tests to improve the
condition of the skin and help reduce any additional damage from
occurring.
One antioxidant that has gained a lot of respect for its properties in recent years is grape seed extract.
Grape seed extract has specific properties that help to reduce inflammation of the skin.
It has also shown to help strengthen the capillary walls and more skin
care products are adding grape seed extract due to these positive
effects on the skin.
Another natural product is green tea extract and this antioxidant is
well worth mentioning here due to the active ingredient catechins.
This ingredient of green tea has been shown in tests to reduce the size of pre-cancerous skin lesions.
Many of the best skin care creams have some form of antioxidants in
their ingredients, as the manufacturers are aware of the benefits of
including them for their customers.
Vitamin A is often shown on the list of ingredients on skin care products by the derivatives of retinol and retinyl palminate.
You will often see the ingredient retinol listed on the packs of anti
acne products, as this is one ingredient that has proven to be
affective for reducing acne.

Sun Protection
Many people are unaware that the main reason for the visible signs of aging of the skin is because of exposure to the sun.
While we all require some sunlight to remain healthy and get our share
of vitamin D, most people get more than their fair share and the
resulting overexposure to the sun ages most people prematurely.
Having a slight tan coloring our skin can give the impression that we
look somewhat healthier but the opposite can be true with the damage
that is going on below the skin.
The ultra violet rays from sunlight promote the production of melanin
and that is why we tan, but this also creates free radicals that
destroy the lipids and proteins in the epidermis, which is the thin
outermost layer of skin.
Damage can also occur deeper within the skin as the collagen is destroyed.
Collagen is responsible for the elasticity of the skin and keeping our skin firm.
Obviously with a reduction in the elasticity of the skin we will begin to look aged sooner.
Antioxidants will help to reduce the damage that the sun will do to the
skin but the best solution is to use suitable protection so the skin
doesn't get damaged in the first place.
Other than remaining out of the sun as much as possible, which isn't a
feasible solution, the best course of action to take is to always
ensure that you wear a good sunscreen with an SPF factor of 15 or more
depending on your skin type.
Certain sunscreen lotions can cause irritation for people with
sensitive skin so, as with all the products you use on your face, try a
test sample first.
Make sure you cover all exposed areas of your face and especially the ears where many people forget to apply sunscreen.
Lips are prone to burn easily so a lip cream with an SPF factor should also be used.
Wide brimmed hats and sunglasses will also help to keep the sun off your face and reduce the aging affects.

Fake Tans
For a great way to have that 'healthy' tanned look without the damage
that can be expected from sun exposure you should consider using fake
tanning products.
These products have come a long way from the days when a person wearing
fake tan could be spotted a mile away looking like a carrot with their
orange skin.
There are two important areas when using fake tans that you need to consider.
The first one is to choose a coloring that is no more than two shades darker than your natural coloring.
To go any darker than that will look unnatural unless you prefer to
look like George Hamilton and appear as though you have been baking
under the sun for the best part of your life.
The tan needs to appear natural and if it is too dark it will be obvious that you are wearing a fake tan.
With many products you will need more than one application and where
this is so, you should always wait for the tan to dry between
applications before deciding whether to apply another layer.
Often the tan will dry slightly darker than anticipated so an additional layer might not be required.
Another area where you will need to be careful is in the application of the tanning products.
The skin needs to be clean before applying the tanning products and
care needs to be taken to ensure that it is applied evenly to remain
streak free.
The higher quality tanning products will generally be a lot easier to
apply and there will be less chance of having unsightly streaks after
application.
Artificial tanners allow you to wear lightly tinted or transparent foundations and powders.
You can also wear a lightly tinted moisturizer that will enhance the natural look of the artificial tan.

Botox
Botox is a popular treatment for the use on the face to reduce the visible effects of aging.
It is commonly used on the upper area of the face, generally around the eyes and between the eyebrows to reduce frown lines.
Botox paralyzes the muscles where it is injected and in doing so stops
those muscles from creating the lines that can be seen on the skin.
It is particularly effective when injected around the 'crows feet' lines that appear from the outer edges of the eyes.
Frown lines can magically disappear for a few months at a time after
the injection and horizontal lines across the forehead can be
eliminated.
While this is only a temporary measure, most Botox treatments will give good results for 3 to 6 months at a time.
Botox works by intercepting the messages that the brain sends to the
muscles that have been injected via the nerves, stopping the muscles
from reacting, and in doing so allows the skin to remain smooth and
wrinkle free.
The more treatments that one gets the more effective they are.
It has proven so popular that younger women are getting Botox treatment
before they get wrinkles to reduce the chance of them getting wrinkles
and looking more aged as they get older.
The sooner Botox treatment starts the more effective it will be at
reducing the incidence of wrinkles and this is why more younger women
are using it sooner rather than later.
Botox has been used safely for over twenty years for many medical
applications and while there are certain cases where people have had
unwanted side effects the incidence of this is rare.
Treatment doesn't always bring immediate results and can take up to a
week or so before the desired results appear on the patient.
Women with particularly strong facial muscles might need an additional
'top up' treatment a week later if the first treatment hasn't worked
well enough.

Collagen Injections
Collagen is a liquid protein that is extracted from cowhide.
Collagen treatments are where this protein is infected into the skin with the intention of filling in wrinkles.
It is often used to reduce the appearance of lines from the nose to the upper lip and between the lower lip and the chin.
It is also injected into the lips to give them a fuller plumper look;
however you are unlikely to look like Angelina Jolie from collagen
injections to the lips.
The treatment is very fast and only lasts about 15 minutes but the
results are only temporary, although they can last up to 6 months for
some people.
Collagen injections are used more often these days for the treatment of
skin irregularities such as scars, marks and indentations that have
been caused by problems such as acne.
Collagen is more effective when it is injected into areas of the face
where there are fewer muscles and less likelihood of muscles movement.
As some people can have an allergic reaction to collagen an allergy
test is usually performed before collagen is injected into the face.
This test is usually done with a small injection of the liquid into the
patients arm and if there is no reaction in the form of a rash or
redness after a couple of weeks it is generally safe to use on other
parts of the body.
When performed by a trained professional, collagen treatments can give
a very natural looking result and this combined with the convenience of
the treatments and the relatively economical cost is reason enough for
many people to consider this as their preferred method of skin
treatment.
More people now seem to prefer the use of Botox to reduce their
wrinkles and for many it presents fewer problems than collagen
treatments.

Eye Creams
Eye creams are one of the most important skin care products that you can buy.
The skin around the eye is the most delicate skin on the face and for
this reason extra care is needed when applying products in this area.
It is also necessary to take more time in selecting products that you will be using around your eyes.
Test small samples before making a decision to buy a product.
The skin around your eyes has a tendency to become more 'wrinkled' than
other areas of the face and you will often find that this is the area
of skin where there will be more blood vessels visible.
These visible blood vessels will appear as dark patches and shadowing under the eyes.
On most people the skin around the eyes will be more sensitive and that means it will be more susceptible to damage.
This is even more of a problem for people who already have sensitive skin.
The skin around the eyes will generally tend to be somewhat drier than
the rest of the face and this is because there are fewer oil glands
present.
You can see now why taking care to get a good eye cream should be one
of the most important purchases for your face care products.
You should look for products that are not only suitable for delicate
skin but also offer some form of protection against the sun.
Sunglasses will certainly help to preserve the quality of the skin
around the eyes but there will always be times when that skin gets
exposed to ultraviolet light.
Look for eye creams that have moisturizing ingredients in them and
also, there are many eye creams on the market that have anti-wrinkle
properties in them.
These are well worth the money even if you need to save it elsewhere on other products.

The Pores of Your Skin
There are thousands of pores spanning across the skin of your face.
We all have different sized pores and this is often determined by the skin type we have.
While there are obviously exceptions to every rule, you will tend to
find that people with oily skin will usually have larger pores than
those with normal or dry skin.
Having larger skin pores can make the skin look rougher and anything
that can help to reduce the size of the pores will make the skin look
smoother.
Therein lays a problem, as the pores tend to get larger as we age.
During the aging process we lose collagen and the loss of collagen results in a reduction in the elasticity of the skin.
This in turn leads to enlarged pores.
The answer obviously is to use products that will help to stimulate
collagen and in doing so reduce the size of the pores or at the very
least stop them from getting any bigger.
By firming the skin the pores can become smaller and in doing so the skin will also look smoother.
So what can you do to reduce the size of your skin pores and have a smoother looking skin?
Well, anything that will reduce the loss of collagen from your skin
will help to stop the pores from becoming enlarged and it has been
shown that antioxidants are effective at helping to retain levels of
collagen and elastin in the skin.
You should therefore look for face care products that have suitable
levels of antioxidants in them, in the form of Vitamins A, C and E and
also natural antioxidants such as green tea extract, grade seed extract
and pycnogenol.
Pycnogenol is an antioxidant that is derived from the bark of the Landis pine trees.
It has proven to be a very effective antioxidant and is often found in face care products

Sleep for Good Skin
We are all well aware of the benefits of getting a good night's sleep
but many people don't understand the importance of sleep for keeping
our skin in the best condition possible.
Sleep is the time when the cells of the body are repaired and this includes skin cells.
Studies have shown that sleep deprivation reduces a person's levels of
growth hormone and it is these growth hormones that are required for
the repair process.
The less growth hormone that we have the less opportunity the body has
to repair the damage that has occurred to the skin throughout the
normal course of the day.
The rate of new skin cells that are produced by the body doubles during
periods of sleep so the more sleep you get the faster your skin cells
will be produced and the younger you are likely to look.
Without this cell regeneration or with cell product reduced below
certain levels the skin will tend to become more wrinkled and lose its
tone.
While all this might lead you to think that you should be spending more
hours in bed you need to consider the effects that too many hours in
bed might have on your skin too.
Yes there is always something else to think about and this time it is the way that you sleep.
Most people tend to sleep on their side or face down and in doing so
their face gets crease marks from the extended time that the face is
pushed against the pillow.
When we are younger this is not a problem, however as we age and there
is less elastin in our skin the crease marks take longer to disappear
and if we continue to sleep in the same position every night these
marks can remain permanent.
The alternative it to sleep on your back or to get softer pillows and satin pillow slips to reduce the marks.

How Does Alcohol Affect Your Skin
OK - we're not talking about alcohol on your skin here but the amount that you consume.
Excessive consumption of alcohol is detrimental to your general health but it also affects the condition of your skin as well.
It's not unusual to be able to spot a heavy drinker by the color of
their nose and this redness that appears on their nose is associated
with broken blood vessels.
While it might take a considerable amount of alcohol to create this
condition, every time you drink a little too much alcohol you are
adding to the damage that is occurring to your skin.
With a deficiency of the B vitamins that is associated with excessive
alcohol consumption, the skin loses some of its condition and this can
cause all sorts of problems, from a change in complexion, to a less
healthy sallow tone to the appearance of skin spots and discoloration.
The blood vessels in the skin dilate and this is what causes them to
break and result in permanent redness in areas such as the nose.
For your skin to remain vibrant you need to remain hydrated and each
time you consume alcohol you are dehydrating your body and that
includes your skin.
It is not sufficient for you to expect to counter this dehydration by
using moisturizers, as these won't address the problem that is
happening under the skin and the body as a whole.
The occasional drink of alcohol or drinking in moderation won't have
much affect at all but you can expect to age faster if you drink more
than a reasonable amount regularly.
A night on the town with a few too many drinks can make for a sorry
sight the next morning with puffy eyes due to water retention so try to
counter the effects of alcohol but consuming at least an equal quantity
of water throughout the night to remain hydrated.

Smoking and Secondhand Smoke
Have you ever noticed when they have those programs on television where
they try to make ordinary people off the street look years younger that
they always seem to choose people who have been smokers for a long
period of time?
There is a very good reason for this and that is because cigarette
smoking is one of the biggest causes of skin deterioration along with
sun exposure.
Not only does smoking affect your skin condition but being around
smokers and having to breathe their secondhand smoke will also affect
your own skin condition.
Cigarette smoke contains a high concentration of a compound that
destroys the DNA of skin cells and in doing so reduces the ability for
those skin cells to renew themselves.
The problems for the smoker are considerable.
It is quite easy to spot a smoker from the fine lines that have formed
prematurely around the mouth as a result of the action of sucking on
cigarettes.
There are generally lines around the eyes from trying to look through the smoke haze.
The nicotine in the cigarettes slows blood circulation and this in turn
causes other skin problems including higher rates of skin cancer and an
inability to heal if there is ever any damage caused to the skin.
Smokers will usually have thinner dryer skin and an inability to
utilize antioxidants that are required for maintaining a healthy skin.
The skin will rapidly begin to look lifeless and will lose its tone with increased smoking.
Only excessive exposure to the sun will cause more damage faster than
smoking and a combination of the two will ensure that you look old well
beyond your years.
Smokers have skin that is considerably thinner than non-smokers due to
the deterioration of collagen and elastin and this is also responsible
for the skin sagging.

Does Dry Skin Cause Wrinkles
Many people are under the misconception that dry skin is the cause of their wrinkles.
While dry skin is not the cause of wrinkles it can make the skin look
aged simply because of the complexion of the skin when it is dry.
Having dry skin certainly won't help to keep it looking youthful and
the fact that the skin is overly dry means it is lacking something,
either in the fact that it needs more hydration or because of a lack of
sufficient exfoliating.
The way to make the skin not appear quite so dry, and along with that look younger, is to ensure that it is well moisturized.
It is also vitally important to ensure that it is well hydrated and that must come from within.
The best way to do make sure that your skin is sufficiently hydrated is
to drink enough water throughout the course of the day so that your
whole body is well hydrated and your skin will become a reflection of
that healthy state.
You should be drinking water throughout the day in smaller amounts,
rather than trying to meet your daily recommended limit by drinking
large amounts at one time.
By getting sufficient water your skin will look translucent and clear.
There is another reason why your skin might appear to look dry even
though you might be getting sufficient water to remain hydrated and
that is because of the build up of dead skin cells on the surface of
the skin.
These dead skin cells can make the skin look dry when in fact it is not dry at all.
By exfoliating your skin and removing the dead skin you will get a
better view of the real condition of your skin and this will also allow
you to moisturize the skin better.
So a combination of sufficient water intake, good exfoliating of the
skin and a good moisturizer can do wonders for your skin condition.

Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is a skin problem that affects a large number of
people and is one of the most common skin problems that people want to
address.
Hyperpigmentation occurs when there are pigment changes in the skin as
can be seen when people get freckles on the face and spots on other
parts of the body that are most likely to appear on the hands and the
chest.
There are two main causes for hyperpigmentation with the most obvious
one being over exposure and subsequent damage from the sun.
The face, hands and often the upper areas of the chest are generally
those areas of the skin that get the most exposure to the sun and this
is why you will see the incidence of hyperpigmentation in those places
more often that other places on the body.
Even the sun streaming through the windscreen of the car you drive can be sufficient to cause these changes in the skin pigment.
Another main cause of hyperpigmentation is due to hormonal changes in the body.
The biggest causes of these hormonal changes in women are pregnancy and birth control pills.
Many people have the misconception that melasma, which is pigmentation caused by the sun, is simply age spots.
Certain skin bleaching agents can assist in reducing the impact of
these spots but like most things associated with the condition of your
skin, covering up in the sun is the best solution to ensure that you
don't get these spots in the first place.
If you do have hyperpigmentation then exposure to the sun will only make the condition worse.
While hyperpigmentation that has resulted from hormonal changes is a
lot more difficult to cure than that caused by the sun, over time with
the correct use of quality skin bleaching products the 'spots' can fade
quite significantly.
Laser treatment is also an effective solution for assisting with the reduction of hyperpigmentation.

Baggy Eyes and a Brow Lift
One of the more obvious signs of aging is the excess skin that begins to hang over the eyes.
This skin makes the eyes look more 'closed-in' and can even affect a person's ability to apply eye shadow correctly.
While surgery is one alternative that many people will resort to, there
are many people who are still unaware that Botox can also have a very
positive affect at giving a person a brow lift without the need for
surgery.
By paralyzing the muscles in the brow with an injection of Botox the
area above the eyes will begin to lift as the Botox takes affect.
When this happens the skin on the eyelids will also lift and the eyes will become more 'open'
These brow lifts are being sought by an increasing number of people who
are looking for suitable alternatives to surgery and the results that
can be obtained from Botox injections are really quite outstanding when
performed by an experienced specialist.
It is essential that you get an experienced person to perform this if
you are considering getting it done as an incorrect procedure can
result in the opposite effect with your eyes looking more closed than
previously.
With such a fast and virtually painless procedure that results in no
requirement for recovery time, Botox brow lifts are becoming the
solution of choice for rapid 'rejuvenation' of that youthful look.
First timers should err on the light side until the results of the
first injections are visible to see how the process has worked as all
people react differently.
It is better to do this in small steps as the convenience of the procedure allows you this option.
In addition to the brow lift, Botox is highly effective for reducing
the crow's-feet and fine lines that extend out from the corners of the
eye.

The Illusion of Makeup
Makeup is an art where you can create an illusion that can transform one face into many different personalities.
By applying makeup strategically you can enhance or minimize the effect
that one part or another on the face might have on your overall
appearance.
While most women won't have lips like Angelina Jolie there are some
steps that can be taken to enhance the 'pout' and give your lips a
sexier look.
One of the tricks that makeup artists will use is to apply less color to the center of the bottom lip.
Some refrain from using any color at all and in doing this they can create an illusion that the lip is fuller in that area.
An alternative to this is to apply a shimmer to the middle of the
bottom lip, as this will give the same illusion as a lack of color in
that area.
To make the upper lip look fuller, a makeup pencil can usually do the trick if applied correctly.
This is done by penciling a light or white line just above the top edge of the lip in the center of the 'cupid's brow'
This creates the illusion of a fuller lip.
There are various products on the market that are advertised as 'lip
plumpers' and while it isn't possible for them to actually plump up the
lips they can help to create that illusion that the lips are fuller and
for this purpose some of them do a really good job.
These products are designed to reflect the light when applied to the lips and this gives the effect that the lips are fuller.
There is always surgery as a last resort but the products that are on
the market can do a really good job of creating sexy lips for most
people and the results will look a lot more natural than those you
might expect from surgery.

Toners
While toners are still readily available on the market, much of the
reason why they where needed is no longer necessary due to developments
in other skin care products.
Until the current development of modern cleansers, the ones that we applied in the past left a residue after they were used.
Due to this residue that was left on the skin after cleansing people
would use toners to remove the excess as a final step in the skin
cleaning process.
The cleansers that are available on the market nowadays don't leave this residue, thereby eliminating the need for toners.
This hasn't stopped the popularity of toners with many women who consider them an essential element in their skin care regime.
There is a misconception with some people that toners will go a long way in the process of helping to firm and tighten the skin.
While they might have some affect in this area their main benefit these days is the ingredients that are in them.
Manufacturers have added more antioxidants into their products in
recent years as more people are becoming aware of the benefits that are
made possible with antioxidants.
Due to this, most of the good toners on the market now have increased levels of these antioxidants.
For this reason alone there is added benefit of using toners after
cleansing as this will help to maintain a better skin condition.
While you cannot expect to get the same levels of antioxidants in a
toner as you will find in face creams, any additional amounts that you
use will all be added benefits for your skin condition so that will
make it worthwhile.
There is also the psychological benefits that some toners will make you
'feel' better from having applied them as part of your face care
process.
That alone can do wonders for your complexion.

Acne
Acne is the curse of the teenage face.
For most people the problems that they have as a teenager with acne
will disappear as they get older but this is not always the case.
There are large numbers of adults who suffer from acne and this can be very distressing to live with.
There are several reasons why adults can get acne and these range from
problems such as stress to hormonal problems that can be made worse by
medications.
The cause of acne is when the skin pore or hair follicle becomes blocked.
This blockage is caused by skin cells that are exfoliated but not completely removed from the skin.
The skin cells block the pores and this forms a plug that traps sebum.
This in turn leads to a build up of bacteria and the resultant inflammation of the skin.
There are many more excellent products on the market that can help reduce the incidence of acne in adolescents and adults alike.
The most common treatment is the use of retinoids that are derived from vitamin A.
Retin-A is the most popular of these applications and is a prescription
medication but there are other 'over the counter' products such as
retinol that are also a suitable solution for many people.
These medications work by removing the stickiness in the cell that causes the discarded cells to remain trapped.
By allowing those cells to be freely exfoliated there is no buildup of
sebum and a reduction in the incidence of bacteria buildup.
There are other products on the market that assist in unclogging
blocked pores by penetrating to the sebaceous matter and some of these
products are used in the better quality cleansers.
While you should not expect results overnight you can bring your skin
up to a higher level of health by using these cleansers on a regular
basis and after a few weeks you should see a reduction in the
occurrence of acne whereby the regular use of these products should
maintain a healthy and blemish free skin.

With Only One Skin You Had Better Care For It
While we all like to have a healthy glowing complexion, there are many
things that we do on a daily basis that is causing damage to our skin.
It has been mentioned many times already and will always be the curse
of the skin care specialists but the biggest problem that we all face
is the damage that exposure to the sun can cause.
While it is necessary to get some sunlight for optimum health, over
exposure to the harmful ultraviolet light, no matter how small will
cause damage and age the skin.
Always apply SPF sunscreen to your skin when venturing outside unless
you are happy to let your skin become wrinkled and damaged.
Another way to damage your skin, sometimes permanently, is to pick
spots and inflammations with your fingers or other sharp objects.
One of the problems with picking at your face is the fact that we
harbor so many opportunities for a transfer of bacteria with the dirt
that lies under our fingertips and that is even for the cleanest of
people.
Once you pick your face with your fingernails that bacteria can get
transferred directly into the pores of the skin and can cause more
inflammation and permanent scarring.
Even using a needle that you have sterilized can cause more problems
than good as you damage the pores and set them up for trapping sebum
and bacteria in the future.
If there are problems with trapped matter on your skin it is wise to
get a trained professional to remove it so you don't do any irreparable
damage.
The other main areas of health that will affect the condition of your
skin are excess stress, a lack of good nutrition and a lack of
sufficient sleep.
These will all affect your overall health and that will be shown in the condition of your skin.
And one way to make your skin look very unhealthy and aged that is only second to overexposure to the sun, is smoking.

Teenage Skin
The teenage years are generally the most problematic as far as skin condition goes.
The problem is generally caused by sebum.
Sebum is the term used by dermatologists for the oil that is produced
in the skin and secreted through the pores and this is where most of
the problems stem from.
During puberty when the sex hormones are highly active the body
produces a lot more sebum from the sebaceous glands that surround the
hair follicles.
The epidermis, which is the outer most layer of skin, is constantly shedding dead skin cells.
It is these dead cells that combine with the excess sebum to cause all the problems that many teenagers have to endure.
When the pores get clogged with this combination of sebum and dead skin cells you get pimples, whiteheads and blackheads.
Exfoliation can help to remove the dead skin cells but trying to remove
the excess oil that is getting produced can increase the rate of
production as the body seeks to replace the oil that has been removed
with more.
There are several things that can be done to assist in having better
skin and in some circumstances this can reduce or eliminate the
problems of acne and other skin outbreaks.
By maintaining a healthy diet and eliminating junk foods, not only will the body be in better health, so will the skin.
Getting outdoors and benefiting from the sun while not getting over
exposed and causing sun damage will assist in the health of the skin
but you need to be very careful to realize there is a balance between
benefits and side effects from ultraviolet light.
A lack of Vitamin A in the diet can also lead to breakouts on the skin
and this is why many people need vitamin A related preparations to
restore their skin condition.
Obviously cleanliness and good skin care and hygiene will go a long way to helping maintain a healthy complexion.
This is not to say that a lack of cleanliness is the cause of acne and
other conditions as this is not so, however teenagers should always do
all they can to minimize the things that won't help with any conditions
that they are suffering from.

Menopausal Skin
Collagen and Elastin fibers are the structural support that the skin needs to remain youthful.
Collagen production is stimulated by the hormone estrogen and this is necessary for the skin to remain firm and wrinkle free.
The problem with menopause is that this production of estrogen begins
to wane and this causes a breakdown in the production of collagen.
The result of the decreased collagen is that the skin becomes slack and more susceptible to wrinkles.
There are other factors that are affected by menopause that also reduce the condition of the skin.
With the skin becoming increasingly fragile with age, the top layers of
the skin, the epidermis and the dermis are more easily separated and
this leads to the vulnerability to damage more easily.
The skin becomes less durable and more susceptible to cuts that would not have resulted in previous years.
As well as this, there is the problem that when cuts do occur, they take a lot longer to heal.
The same applies to bruises, that are easier to get, and often look
somewhat more severe and they will generally take longer to disappear.
Due to the delicate nature of the skin during menopause and as we age
there is a need to be a lot gentler than would be expected with the
skin of a younger person.
This care even applies to the way that creams and cleansers are used on the skin and particularly the face.
As the skin ages and becomes more fragile it is necessary to avoid pulling the skin when applying skin care products.
By rubbing in creams and toners the skin can easily get 'pulled' and in
doing so stretch it causing permanent damage if this is done on a
regular basis.
It is better to pat the skin when applying lotions and make up.
Good quality moisturizers applied day and night will assist in
maintaining the skin in the best possible condition and will be money
well spent.

Photofacials
Contrary to popular belief a photofacial treatment is not the same as a laser face treatment.
A photofacial treatment is more effective than a laser treatment
because it has the ability to get deeper into the skin where it can
help to treat pigmentation problems and dilated vessels.
The reason for this is due to the type of light that the photofacial
machine emits as compared to that of a laser treatment light.
Where a laser will emit light over a single wavelength the photofacial
machine delivers the light treatment in several wavelengths and this
helps to penetrate deeper into the skin without causing damage to the
skin cells.
It is at this deeper level that the repair is required to address various skin problems that the laser can't address.
A photofacial is effective at helping to repair many different problems
such as broken capillaries, pigmentation problems, fine lines, rosacea,
scarring and more.
One of the benefits of having a photofacial, apart from the fact that
you can get positive benefits for the skin, is the speed of the
treatment, which generally lasts no more than thirty minutes.
The fact that you can return to your everyday activities immediately
after a photofacial treatment adds to its convenience and popularity.
It will generally be necessary for you to wear a sunscreen after the
treatment to help protect the skin and in some circumstances there
might be some redness or dryness on the treated area and particularly
for people who have sensitive skin.
Photofacials aren't generally a single treatment as the more treatments
that are performed the more effective the results will be.
For this reason a person getting a photofacial will be advised to book
in for a series of treatments over a period of a few weeks to ensure
they get the best results possible.

Sensitive Skin Conditions
Sometimes it is quite difficult to determine what is causing a sensitive skin condition.
There can be many different factors that can cause your skin to become
sensitive and is not always that simple to find a solution.
If you are using many products this will only make the task all the more difficult.
The best solution if you are finding your skin is becoming sensitive is
to determine if there have been any changes in the products that you
have been using.
Obviously if you've recently changed products and your skin has become
sensitive then that will be the first thing that you would look at.
If there have been no changes in the face care products that you have
been using then you will need to look at other factors including your
lifestyle and any changes that you might have made recently.
It could be that you have always had an underlying condition that has been made worse from some other factors such as stress.
As we age we are often faced with skin conditions that would not have been a problem in our younger years.
Skin might become sensitive to products that we have used for years with no problem whatsoever.
If you find that your products are starting to cause irritation and
sensitivity and there have been no major changes in your lifestyle then
it is time to start testing new products that are milder on your skin.
This process can take quite some time particularly if you use several products on your face.
There are some natural face care products on the market that can be
milder on the skin but once again you will need to test them on your
own skin first as even natural products can cause irritations when the
skin becomes sensitive.

Moles and Skin Cancer
It is quite common for people to have moles on their skin and for the most part they are quite harmless.
It is always wise to monitor any moles that you might have to ensure that they don't become cancerous.
Moles are formed by small bunches of pigment cells that are grouped together and can appear in many different colors.
They are generally brown, black, or flesh colored.
More often than not they are on other parts of your body rather than the face.
When they appear on the face we generally call them beauty spots.
If you have a mole on your face that you want to get removed you'll
need to find a surgeon who is highly recommended to do the procedure
with the least scarring possible.
Moles need to be surgically removed although this is generally a very simple and small procedure.
If you notice any changes in your moles then see a doctor immediately as it could be skin cancer without you realizing.
If any of your moles begin to change shape or color then this can be a sign that you might have skin cancer.
If you have a mole with a jagged border or it is asymmetrical then see your doctor immediately.
Other signs that you might have skin cancer are dry or scaly patches on your skin that can be in the form of flat pink spots.
In fact any unusual spot on your skin should be checked sooner rather
than later to ensure that you don't have any problems with skin cancer.
If you have had a lot of exposure to the sun in your life then that is
all the more reason to be careful as skin cancer can appear many years
later.
Even if you have wisely been using sun cream in recent years there's
still the possibility that you can get skin cancer from the exposure
that you had as a child.
This is one important reason to ensure that any children you know are protected from the sun.

Facial Oils
Contrary to popular belief facial oils can benefit any type of skin - even oily skin.
The reason why many women are reluctant to use facial oils is because
nobody likes to have greasy oily skin but this is not the case when
using facial oils.
As the facial oils are rapidly absorbed into the skin the surface is not left greasy and oily.
With the active ingredients that are in these oils there are many benefits that can be had from using them.
Many of the natural health clinics will use and supply these facial
oils and there is nothing quite like having a facial massage from
somebody using good-quality facial oil.
There are different types of facial oils for the various skin types and these are all designed to address different problems.
Some people combine these facial oils with aromatherapy.
Most of these face treatment oils use 100% pure plant extracts.
Some of the common essential oils that are used include sandalwood,
cardamom, lavender, blue orchid, geranium, lotus extract, and more.
These oils are used to help restore and comfort the skin, while reducing reddening and irritation.
Other oils such as hazelnut help prevent moisture loss and are excellent for anti aging.
Oils are used for normalizing the skin and revitalizing and toning the epidermis.
The best time to use these face treatment oils is at night as an alternative to night cream.
After you have thoroughly cleansed and toned your face you will apply the oil to your face and neck while it is still damp.
Avoid excess oil around the eye area.
Once applied, you can gently remove any excess oil with a soft tissue or face cloth.
It is particularly beneficial to use oils on the forehead, nose and chin.
Massage the oil gently into these areas and also on your cheeks.
If you've never used face oils before you should try as you might be surprised how well you like it.

Skin in your 20s and 30s
As you move from your teenage years to your early 20s most people notice some changes in the skin.
Generally the skin will tend to improve, with less of the spots that can cause so much suffering through the teenage years.
The skin is generally a lot more normal than it will be at many of the times in your life.
During this time there is less necessity for face care products
although using good products at this time will ensure that your skin
stays good as you age.
For those who have had a bit too much exposure to the sun in the
teenage years the first signs of damage might start to appear in the
form of broken capillaries, freckles and lines around the eyes.
Hopefully for those who have been exposed to the sun they will take
this as a warning sign to be a more careful in the future as sun damage
is cumulative.
As you move into your 30s, once again provided you haven't been over
exposed to the sun, your skin complexion should still look firm and
youthful.
The fine lines that you saw starting to appear in your 20s will become
more pronounced as will other signs of sun damage such as freckles and
other pigmentation changes.
The skin won't be producing the same levels of oil as in younger years, and this can sometimes lead to dryness.
Later on in your 30s you might start to notice sensitivities to various
different products that you have used without problems for years.
It can be seen that the earlier you begin to look after your skin the better condition that it will be later in life.
The biggest factor that will determine the condition of your skin in
your 20s and 30s will be how often and how much you expose your skin to
the sun.

Laser Vein Treatment
Most broken veins will appear on areas such as the thighs.
It is not uncommon however for people to get spider veins on the face.
While these can look quite unsightly the procedure to remove them is relatively simple.
Rather than trying to hide the veins with clever makeup, it might be
time to visit a dermatologist and have them treated with a laser.
The way that the laser treats these veins is through a wavelength of light that it emits.
The laser light increases the heat of the blood inside the vein.
When the heat reaches a certain temperature the blood vessel walls collapse and dissolve.
Is a relatively quick treatment taking approximately 15 minutes and there is very little sensation felt by the patient.
To get the desired results you will often need several treatments spread out over a number of weeks.
There are various different types of lasers used in the treatment and
the dermatologist will choose the one most suitable dependent upon the
results that are required.
Each of the different types of lasers will emit a slightly different
beam and having the choice of the different lasers allows the
dermatologist to target the various different types of spider veins
that are present.
After a few treatments with the laser light the capillaries will be dilated and virtually invisible.
When this laser treatment is used on the face it is quite easy with the
use of light makeup to completely conceal any traces of the veins.
There is very little chance of any side effects from laser vein
treatment, with the most noticeable sign that you've had the treatment
being slight redness around the area where the veins were.
As with most treatments it is better to get on to the problem as soon
as possible while the veins are small and there is less damage to the
skin.

Face Cleansing Tips
If you wear makeup often you should get into a good routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin every evening.
By getting into a good routine of cleansing you help to hold back the aging clock by maintaining your skin in better condition.
Cleansing will remove all the old makeup that has been on your face throughout the day.
It would also clear away the accumulation of grease and grime that is
collected on your face through the day from your working conditions and
even from your hands as many people tend to touch the face often
throughout the day.
Pull your hair back from your face to ensure that you clean all of the skin right to your hairline.
When cleaning off mascara from around the eyes, be very careful not to stretch the skin.
When working around the eyes use cotton balls or cotton buds to remove
the mascara and eye shadow using a quality cleansing lotion.
This is one area that you have to be particularly careful as the skin is most delicate around the eyes.
Over the rest of your face you can apply the cleansing lotion using your hands.
Massage the cleansing cream into the skin particularly those areas
where you are prone to blackheads and other skin blemishes are.
By massaging the cleansing cream into the skin it will help to ensure
that any buildup of makeup grease and grime will be removed from the
pores of the skin and reduce the possibility of further skin problems
such as acne.
Once you have thoroughly applied the cleansing cream all over your face
you can gently remove it with a tissue or cotton ball in preparation
for toning.
Even though you have used a cleansing cream at night it is always wise
to get into the habit of washing your face first thing in the morning.
This will ensure that you are starting with a clean foundation in the morning before applying your makeup.

Applying Foundation
The first step when applying foundation is to ensure that you shake the bottle well.
This is particularly important when using oil based foundations as they tend to separate.
If you haven't already applied some moisturizer to your face then add a
touch of moisturizer to your palm (just a few drops will do) and mix it
with the foundation that you will also apply to your palm.
Once this is well mixed, take some of the foundation and the end of
your fingers or a small sponge and dot it about your cheeks, chin,
forehead and nose.
With sufficient foundation in these areas you can start to smooth it over your face.
Gently blend the foundation over your face in an upward and outward motion.
Be sure that you don't miss any areas and in particular the sides of your nose.
Blend it well where your nose and cheeks meet as it is quite easy in
this area to get a build up a foundation that can look quite unsightly.
Other areas that need special attention are under your eyebrows and around the jaw line.
Make sure that you blend the foundation just below the jaw line.
When you're finished gently blot your face with a tissue to ensure that there is no excess oil left on your skin.
A good application of foundation should look very natural and not as though it has being plastered on.
In addition to using the correct procedure for applying a foundation
you must choose a foundation that is suitable for your skin type and
your skin coloring.
If you can't find a foundation that blends well with your skin coloring
it might be necessary for you to get two foundations and mix them
together for your own custom blend.
As foundation is the base for all your makeup it is essential that you get this step right.

Concealers
Concealers can do wonders for covering up many different problem areas of the skin.
They can do wonders for hiding tiny veins and blemishes on the skin for
those people who do not or will not have laser treatment to fix these
problems.
They are also excellent for hiding the natural shadows that many people
have in areas of the face and in particular below the eyes.
Concealers don't actually improve any problems; they just hide them from view.
So you're not likely to get rid of black circles under the eyes by
regularly using concealers but they can't do wonders for that area of
the face where the skin is particularly thin.
To apply concealer around your eyes place a small amount on your finger
tip and then gently dab it on the skin before smoothing it from the
outside corner inwards and back again.
Be careful not to stretch the skin in this area as the skin is very thin and easily damaged.
The most important thing about using concealers is to ensure that you blend it in very well.
Concealers can be used either under or over foundation but no matter where you use them they must be blended for a natural look.
A cream concealer will generally be the type most suitable for the
majority of people as the liquid concealers are often difficult to work
with and a stick concealer risks the possibility of stretching and
damaging your skin.
If you're using a concealer to cover up blemishes on your skin it is
wise to check throughout the day to see whether additional blending
might be necessary as your makeup begins to wear off.
When this happens the areas that have been covered with a concealer
become more obvious and that is precisely what you don't want to happen.

Contouring to Change Your Face
You might like to consider contouring to help change the look of or emphasize the structure of your face.
Contouring is a process whereby you use blushes and bronzing powders to give the contours of your face better definition.
Makeup artists have been using contouring for years particularly in the
movie industry and in magazine photo shoots to give the illusion that
the faces they are working on have a particular definition that they
desire.
It is an art form similar to that of painting where different colors can create shading or highlighting.
It takes a lot of skill and time to create a good job when contouring a
face and it is not something that you would like to do every day.
For special occasions however, and provided you have an experienced
makeup artist to do the work for you, you could be amazed by the way
they can transform anybody to look special for those particular
occasions.
An experienced contourer will use a combination of colors in various
different shades, and the skillful use of the makeup brush to create
the illusion.
By applying shading they can add depth to areas of the face and use
lighter colors for highlighting those areas that they want to stand out.
This talented use of color and brush work can create a facelift without the surgery.
Sometimes if the areas on your face that you're not particularly happy
with concern you then it might well be worth spending some money to get
someone to contour your face one day after discussing with them the
look that you are after.
Once they have finished preparing your face to your satisfaction, you
can get some simple techniques from them of the basic blending that you
can use when applying your own makeup for an improved look.

Eye Makeup
You can make or break the look of your face by using the right or wrong eye makeup.
The make up that you choose for your eyes should emphasize the natural color of your eyes.
It should also emphasize the shape of your eyes.
If you can afford the time and money then seek some advice from a
professional and get them to help you choose the correct colors for
your eye makeup as it can make a world of difference.
There is so many things that you can do with your eyes by using the right makeup.
By adding shadowing you can add more depth to your eyes.
You can make tired eyes look lively (but only within reason)
If you're constantly lacking sleep and tired all the time you're going
to need some good concealer to cover up the dark circles that you will
develop under your eyes.
Here are some tips to change the look of your eyes;
To make your eyes look rounder, add eye shadow to both the upper and lower lids.
Another way to do this is to use an eye liner and outline the base of your lashes.
To make your eyes look more oval draw a line at the base of your lashes thickening the line slightly in the middle.
To make your eyes look further apart start your eyeliner line away from
the inner corner of your eye and make it slightly thicker towards the
outer edge, extending it in a slightly upward stroke.
To make your eyes appear closer together you are virtually creating the
opposite illusion to what you did to make your eyes look further apart.
In this case the eyeliner would be slightly thicker at the inner corner
of the eye and you would stop the line at the outer edge feathering it
off slightly thinner.
Shadowing and the use of dark and light colors can also make the eye look bigger or smaller depending on your requirements.

additional ingredients in them to preserve their shelf life, the
majority of the ingredients are still natural and that is what is

Some Quick Tips for Healthy Skin Care
At the top of the list for keeping your skin healthy is to spend the money to ensure that you get good quality sun protection.
Whether that protection is in the form of hats, sunglasses or clothing,
or in quality SPF sun care lotions, any money that is spent on
protecting your skin from the sun will pay dividends in the years to
come.
Everything from aging to skin cancer is caused by overexposure to the sun.
Get sufficient water throughout the day to remain hydrated.
Not only will your overall health improve but so will the condition of your skin.
Always use a good moisturizer to ensure that you keep your skin moist at all times.
While drinking water will ensure that you remain hydrated your skin can become dry due to various different conditions.
Even working in the air conditioned offices can dry out your skin.
Sleep and exercise are essential for good health and are also an essential part of maintaining a healthy skin.
If you're not getting enough sleep you can expect to see wrinkles appearing sooner along with dark areas under your eyes.
Cleanse your skin on a regular basis (once or twice a day) to ensure
that any dead skin cells are removed from the surface of the skin and
the pores don't become blocked.
Always choose the best products for your skin as you only get one chance to take care of it and it has the last you a lifetime.
Choosing the right products can make the difference between looking 10 years younger in the future.
Many of the choices that you make throughout life and even those that
are made for you as a child will determine the condition of your skin
as you age.
While we can't be expected to know too much about skin condition as
children there is no time like the present to start taking care of your
skin.
We all have the opportunity to choose whether we are going to lie in the sun or smoke cigarettes.

Anti Aging Skin Care
There is no doubt about the fact that we're living a lot longer, and
people are becoming interested in anti aging products to ensure that
they get more years of enjoyment as they age.
The best solution for anti aging is to take care of your body and health along the way.
The usual list of advice applies here, with regular exercise, good
sleep, drinking sufficient water and eliminating stress where possible.
Skincare manufacturers are aware of the ever increasing elderly age
group who require good products to help maintain a healthy skin.
With skin becoming more sensitive as people age they need to have the
choice of products in their preferred brands that they know they can
continue to use without causing irritation.
Usually the changes are made quite gradually where you will notice that
a product that you've been using for years is slowly beginning to
irritate your skin.
At other times due to various things that are happening in your life
you can find a product that was perfectly good for your skin one month
is no longer suitable.
Many of the anti aging products on the market are quite mild as they are targeted towards people who are older.
The manufacturers of quality products do a lot of research on people in
the older age groups and they know what skin conditions they suffer
from and what is needed to assist them in maintaining good skin health.
Many of these anti aging products have a high degree of natural
ingredients that are not only milder on the skin but they also have
rejuvenating factors that can make a big difference if used on a
regular basis.
Anti aging skincare products will protect, maintain, and rejuvenate the
skin and many people who have used them for years have seen the
benefits in the long-term by looking considerably younger than their
counterparts.

Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing involves the removal of the skins outer layer.
In doing so, this procedure can diminish discoloration, fine lines and
wrinkles, scars, pigmentation problems, and other skin problems.
Laser resurfacing can also tighten the skin and give the face a firmer and younger appearance.
While this sounds good you'll need to get some expert advice from a
good dermatologist before undergoing any of this treatment particularly
if you have dark or olive skin.
The reason people with dark or olive skin need to be particularly
careful when using these types of treatments is the fact that they can
scar quite easily.
A good dermatologist will give you a thorough evaluation before deciding whether this sort of treatment will be suitable or not.
With a choice of two different types of lasers for resurfacing the
dermatologist can choose how deep they need to go to improve the
quality of the skin.
Sometimes the dermatologist will recommend medication to prevent the possibility of infection.
By taking advantage of the benefit of having two different types of
laser treatments available, the dermatologist can target both light
scarring and deeper scaring.
When there is a combination of light and deep scarring in the same area
the dermatologist might choose to use an alternative laser that can
affect the skin tissues deeper down allowing him to clear those
problems at once.
There is a recovery time that can vary depending on the patient and for
some people this can be quite a considerable time, particularly those
people who have sensitive skin.
In the first few days special care needs to be taken to ensure that the skin doesn't become infected.
After that the skin can peel for up to three weeks by which time it is generally ready to have makeup applied.
One of the benefits of laser treatment is the fact that it stimulates new collagen growth.
This new collagen growth can help the skin to feel tighter and firmer for several months after the initial treatment.

Your Brows
Your brows frame your eyes and reshaping them can make a big difference to the way you look.
Coloring can also change the way that they set off your face.
Contrary to popular belief the hairs of your brow will not grow back thicker if you pluck them.
In fact by constantly plucking your brows you're more likely to stop them from growing altogether.
Before you do start plucking your brows you need to decide what shape you would like to have.
It is generally best to follow the brows natural arch.
While working with the natural arch of your brow you will get a look
that is more in keeping with the shape of your face while still
allowing you a lot of room to make improvements.
The arch at the top of the brow will be the line that you would generally want to follow.
The hair will generally be thicker at the center of the brow and the
first step is to start plucking that hair from the area at the bottom
of the brow line to match that at the top.
Always pluck in the direction that the hair is growing as this is less painful and it is easier to remove the hairs.
For a nice natural look it is quite good to have the brow a similar
thickness at the beginning and along through to the centerline and then
tapering off to the edges with a nice natural curve.
Before you decide to color your brows try using a similar color with some mascara first.
This will give you an indication of what you will look like once your
brows have been colored and if you don't like what you see you can
easily wash it off.
Once you're satisfied with the color that you like from using the mascara, you can use a more permanent solution.

Foundation Textures
Foundation makes the skin look smooth by giving it a healthy natural
complexion while helping to make it appear as flawless as possible.
There are various different types of foundation textures on the market
and you need to find the one that suits your complexion the best.
Sheer foundations are one of the better choices for helping to give you a more natural look.
Sheer foundations generally contain silicon which helps them to glide easily over the skin without giving you an oily look.
By using this type of foundation sparingly it can appear as though you don't have any foundation on at all.
Oil based foundations are excellent for dry or flaky skin.
As many oil based products can appear to be a little bit heavy, it
might be wise to add a few drops of toner to the solution before
applying it.
Matt foundations on the other hand dry out extremely fast and they need
to be applied rather quickly while taking care to blend them in well at
the same time.
These foundations can be good for people with oily skin as they tend to remain matt for longer.
Cream foundations are excellent for people with aged skin as they help
to cover surface lines and wrinkles while still maintaining a natural
finish.
Light reflecting foundations have specially shaped particles that help
to give a youthful appearance by reflecting the light off the skin.
Along with the many different developments that are being made with
skincare products you can buy foundation now that is light responsive.
This foundation has special pigments that are receptive to the light
and they will change according to the natural light conditions.
There will even change according to electric lights and in doing so
will remain a color that looks the same in the various different
conditions.

Winter Care for Your Skin
Just as the sun can play havoc on your skin over the summer months,
winter is also a time when additional care is needed to protect your
skin from the extremes of the weather conditions that it will be
exposed to.
Often during the winter we are inside in air conditioned or heated
rooms and then we go out into the cold and hope that our skin can cope
with the environment.
It is a time when lips become chapped, skin becomes raw, and many people get skin that becomes red and itchy.
Winter skin protection is extremely important.
While the sun is generally not as harsh in the winter it is still possible to get sun damage during this time.
Even if you are living in areas where there is snow you can get a lot
of light reflected off that snow that can cause damage to your skin.
With that in mind you should be wearing a foundation with some form of SPF factor to prevent against damage.
Foundation is very important in the winter months as this is your protection against the weather.
Through the winter months, many people find that their skin becomes a
lot drier due to the heat and humid conditions that they experience
inside.
Exfoliating will help to remove the dead cells and allow for the skin to breathe and regenerate.
In extreme conditions you might find that it will be essential to wrap
some clothing around your face while going outside as this is a time
when sensitive capillaries can break.
There is a lot of damage can be done to the skin during winter and
while we might not feel so inclined to spend the time on skin care
during the winter months is as important as any other time of the year,
and often more so for people with sensitive skin.

Circulation for Your Aged Skin
It is very important to maintain good circulation of the blood for your
skin to remain healthy and your complexion to look well as you age.
As we age our circulation system pumps the blood more slowly throughout
the body and along with a reduction in circulation the skin becomes
more dehydrated with the consequent degeneration in skin health.
Along with the slowing down of the circulation system the body makes
fewer new cells and the cells that we do lose are replaced a lot slower.
Those cells that we do have also lose their ability to adhere to one another.
It makes sense then to try to increase your circulation system and one
of the best ways to do this is by getting regular exercise.
Not only will this exercise improve your overall health but also
improve your complexion as the increased flow of blood to the skin will
also help it to remain hydrated and stave off wrinkles for little bit
longer.
Any form of resistance training will also help to stimulate the muscles
under the skin and this can have a similar effect to a mild facelift.
We tend tighten the muscles of the face when doing any form of
resistance work or training and this helps to firm the face and give it
a lift.
Maintaining a happy healthy life will be reflected in your face and
will help to make you look considerably younger provided of course that
you take care with the correct skin care products and keeping out of
the sun where possible.
The older we get the more care we need to take of our skin, not only
from the outside but also from the inside and the best way to take care
of that is with good healthy blood circulation and remaining well
hydrated.

The High Cost of Skin Care Products
There is no doubt about the fact that it costs a lot of money to take care of your skin.

them as an investment in your future, as using the right products will
ensure that your skin will be in optimum health for as long as possible.
While it is not necessary to buy all the latest products that come out
on the market you should certainly consider spending the money on a few
of the basics that you need and ensure that the products are suitable
for your particular skin type.
You can save quite a lot of money by buying your products from some of
the big online stores that sell cosmetics and skin care products.
By buying from these online stores you can be saving money that will
allow you to have extra funds to spend on other areas of your skincare.
Of course there are many things that you can do for your skin that
won't cost any money at all, such as staying out of the sun where
possible, refraining from smoking, and staying away from areas where
secondhand smoke is present.
Drinking sufficient water won't cost you a lot of money but it will
certainly do a lot for your overall health and in particular your
skincare as you remain hydrated.
Getting sufficient sleep is also an excellent way of improving the condition of your skin.
Along with your environment removing any stress from your life will also help improve your health and your skin.
Any form of medication that you take can affect the condition of your
skin and while it might not be possible to eliminate meditation
sometimes there are alternatives that can give you the same results
while not having the side effects that can affect other areas of your
health.

Very Effective and Efficient Debt Management Once you have calculated precisely how much money you owe then it is time to create a budget that will help you to use your income more efficiently by covering all your necessary expenditure and working towards the elimination of your debt.
A budget can be prepared in a book or more effectively online using a program such as Excel.
Now when you prepare your budget you need to take into account everything that you can think of relating to income and expenditure and this budget will need to be updated on a regular basis as more things come to mind when there are changes in your financial position.
This is why it makes it a lot easier to use a program such as Excel where totals can be added quickly and you will be able to see in a matter of seconds which direction you are going in and whether the steps that you have made have resulted in positive changes towards your financial well-being.
Where you are unsure about specific parts of the budget such as how much money you spend per week on food and other essential items, you will have to make an estimate initially until you are able to take notes the next time you go to the shops and see precisely how much you spend.
Once you get some of these figures you will be able to determine whether you are overspending in particular areas and what you can do about reducing such expense.
Your food shopping is one area where you can save a considerable amount of money because most people don't have any strict limits on their food spending.
Once again changes can only be made if you know precisely what you've been doing in the past and where you can make the changes in the future.
It might mean that you have to completely change the types of foods that you are buying and often the benefit of doing this is you improve your health along the way by buying food that is better for you.
Budgeting is your way to gain control over your finances once again. In fact it is the only way for you to gain control. It is a lot easier than you might expect and once you begin to use a budget you will wonder how you ever managed your finances in the past without having a budget.
Making the Right Moves when Debt is Excessive. While the budget will help you to manage your debt and to begin eliminating outstanding debt if you have excessive amounts of debt then you are going to need to take a little more action to reduce the impact this will have on your life, your credit rating and your future.
If you have a lot of creditors or a lot of debt owing to creditors then you will probably need to contact them and try to work out some deals were you can pay them off in installments over a period of time that is manageable.
If you're already paying installments then they might need adjusting so you can handle them more easily.
Your budget should have the details of all of your outstanding debts and the amounts that you should be paying. With this information you can work out accurately how much you can afford to pay and then present that to your creditors to see that they are happy to allow payments at a reduced rate if necessary.
Expect them to try to pressure you into higher payments but if you let them know that your budget only allows for a specific amount to be paid per period then more often than not they will agree to it knowing that the debt will get cleared in that manner.
Sometimes it is necessary to borrow more money to pay off existing debt and while you will be reluctant to borrow money it can be beneficial where consolidation of debt reduces costs in the form of penalties and interest. You should only borrow if you can find money at a lower interest rate than the debt that is currently owed.
You can also get help from good credit counseling agencies that will help you to prepare a budget and negotiate with your creditors to reduce payments.
Often they will give you other advice that will help with the management of your finances and will be invaluable to helping you improve your financial position.
And finally if worst comes to worse and you really can't afford to pay off the excessive amount of debt that you have built up there might be no alternative but to file for bankruptcy. You will need some professional advice as to when and how to do this as it can make the difference between eliminating your debt completely or alternatively giving you three to five years to pay off what is owed. Managing Debt Collectors
Debt collectors have a job to do and they are paid accordingly as a percentage of the amount of money that they recover from you. Obviously it is in their best interest to recover as much money as possible and many of them will resort to all sorts of tactics in order to extract funds from you whether you can afford it or not.
Debt collectors are also aware that the majority of people don't know the laws as they stand with their powers of collection and the rights you have that cannot be violated.
They are only allowed to contact you between the hours of 8am and 9 pm and if you send them a written letter not to contact you again in relation to a particular debt they have to abide by that request and can only contact you again to inform you of any further action they will take in the recovery of the debt.
They cannot contact you at your place of employment if you inform them that this is not allowed and they are not allowed to contact you excessively as this is classed as harassment. Obscene or insulting language is also not allowed although many debt collectors will use such tactic to intimidate people and get them to pay more than they can comfortably afford.
Many debt collectors will buy your bad debt off your creditor and then it is up to them to recover their money from you so they can get quite aggressive in their recoveries. If you are in a position where you are expecting a debt collector, know your rights and don't allow them to 'bully' you into making a payment that you can't afford.
Sometimes you will be able to discuss an arrangement with them to pay off the debt and this is obviously the best solution as they will get their money eventually and you will be able to pay it back at a rate that your budget has determined most suitable.
Always try to work through your money problems with those involved in an amiable manner as this is usually where you get the best deals that will keep both parties happy. Take Care of the Most Important Debts
You need to prioritize your debt repayment and ensure that the most important debts are taken care of first.
The importance of the debt is determined by the impact that it can have on your life both now and in the future so clearing past due taxes would be one of the first debts that you would have to look at due to the penalties and compounding interest that you will have to pay and the fact that the IRS has so many powers to seize assets and make life very difficult for you.
A mortgage is another debt that needs to take top priority as losing your house can impact on your ability to pay all your other debts and also make it difficult for you to find accommodation elsewhere. If you don't have your own home then you need to ensure that your rent and utility bills are kept up-to-date so you have a roof over your head and are able to live in suitable conditions to be able to work your way through your money problems.
Your budget will give you a clear indication of the total amount of debt that is owing to others and from there you can set your priority list where you can start working with the people you owe money to and sort out payment plans with your creditors and your own steps to clear your debt.
Medical bills and court-ordered child support debt are also high on the priority list as failure to pay these can result in drastic action being taken that will once again make it difficult for you to work your way through your other debts.
Car loan repayments are a priority because car finance companies will quickly repossess your car if you fall behind with the payments and this can impact on so many other areas of your life such as your ability to get to your place of employment.
Don't be forced into paying minor debts at the hands of debt collectors if you haven't covered these priority debts first. Understanding Debt Better
Not all debt is bad and while you might consider it to be so at the moment when all you can think about is the overwhelming amount of debt that you need to repay and the problems that it has caused, you will also need to understand that often it is worthwhile having debt.
For a start having debt on appreciating assets such as a mortgage on your home can be a good thing because the value of your house will be increasing at a rate that is far greater than the amount of money that you could save and quite possibly you would never be able to save the amount of money required to purchase a house in the first place.
For most people this will be the only type of debt that is worthwhile having simply because the advantages far outweigh the cost of the debt in the form of interest.
The debt that is incurred for purchasing items that can't be regarded as assets, for example motor vehicles where they are depreciating and you are losing money the longer you own them, can't be regarded as good debt.
Credit cards are one of the biggest causes of financial problems in the country but they too have their uses and in particular when you're trying to rebuild your credit history by taking out smaller amounts of borrowings and paying them back on time all the time.
Getting small amounts of credit card debt and repaying it, can help you to move on to personal loans and then eventually you'll have the opportunity to get a mortgage to purchase a house again even if your past create history has been bad.
So you can see that in the right circumstances there are various reasons why debt can help you have a more fruitful life.
Racking up restaurant bills and purchases of the latest fashion items on your credit card can never be regarded as good debt in anyone's books. Improving Your Credit History
Improving your credit history is basically about doing the opposite to that which caused you to get a bad credit history in the first place.
You got a bad credit history by not making good the debt that you owed to other people either on late payments or failure to make the payments at all.
This bad credit history remains in your name for 7 1/2 years and any time you go to borrow money, rent accommodation or virtually anything else that involves the need to check your credit standing you are going to be at a disadvantage.
So what can you do to make up for your past errors?
Simply by doing the opposite to what you did in the past and borrowing small amounts of money but ensuring that you pay them back on time all the time to start to build up a good credit history will begin to compensate for your past efforts.
When many people get on top of their debt problems they are very reluctant to go back to borrowing again however in order to get your own house and a mortgage that will be necessary in order to buy it, you need to start rebuilding your credit history and unfortunately the only way that that can be done is by borrowing and proving that you have changed and can meet your responsibilities to the financers.
You don't have to borrow a lot of money and in fact it is better to do smaller amounts at various different places so you get good credit reports from a wider range of people.
Credit cards are the easiest way to get started rebuilding your past and then buying the occasional item provided it is a necessity and at low cost on hire purchase where you make monthly payments over a set period of time and don't miss any payments as the next step towards your goal of getting lending institutions the confidence to work with you further. Understanding Why You Spend
We all have reasons why we spend and aside from the necessities in life many of us love to spend for various different emotional reasons.
Just as some people 'reward' themselves or find comfort in chocolate there are many more who spend money in response to certain emotions.
Are there occasions in your life when something has happened where you immediately feel like you need to go out and celebrate by either buying something or having a meal at an expensive restaurant?
Many people buy material items in an attempt to make them feel better about themselves.
It is not uncommon for people with low self-esteem to spend money on items that they think will give others a higher opinion of them.
People buy expensive cars or yachts to boost their ego.
Some people buy when they are happy and some people buy when they are sad.
Many people these days buy with no thought about the future and the fact that they are going to have to pay off the debt that they have just incurred today for the next year or so. Impulse buying can be particularly dangerous as it is generally for items that you don't need and the debt that comes with these types of purchases is something that you definitely don't need and will possibly regret for a long time.
If you can define precisely why you buy then you will be in a lot more control over your financial future and you will understand that the short term benefits that you get from your buying sprees are certainly outweighed many times over by the stress and worry of the financial burden that they bring with them.
It might even be necessary to see a professional for consultation to help you change these bad habits that are getting you into financial strife on a regular basis.
More often than not they are just bad habits and we are unaware of what we do a lot of the time. Income and Spending Gathering the information necessary to compare your income with your spending can be quite eye opening for most people.
By doing this over the period of the last year you will get a better understanding of where your money has been going and why you have landed in a situation where the debt is overpowering you.
The income is easy to sort for those people on wages as that will be fixed for the year and it would be relatively easy to make a list of the fixed expenses such as your rent or mortgage your insurances and other such factors where you know the exact amount that you will be paying each month.
You can make estimates of how much you spend on your shopping for necessities and while you might make an attempt to calculate how much money you fritter away from one week to another almost everybody who does this exercise finds that they have underestimated considerably the amount of money that they have been spending.
If you are able to calculate how much money you had in the bank and how much debt you had at the beginning of the year and then add and subtract your income and your expenses as you have already calculated them you should come up with a balance of where you would expect to be now.
The next step obviously is to calculate exactly where you are now and the difference between that figure and the previous figure is the amount of money that you have frittered away without realizing that you've been spending it.
So where did all this money go - you might ask yourself.
Often it's the little things that you don't consider worthwhile recording such as the cup of coffee you have every day with the occasional take-away that you have once or twice a week. Maybe it's the magazines that you buy each week or some other relatively small expense that adds up with all those other relatively small expenses to create a big deficit in your finances over the term of the year or so.
These are the areas where you can cut back or eliminate spending that will have a huge impact on your ability to reduce your debt and remain debt free once you have put yourself in that position.
Many little expenses add up to one big debt. Changing Your Attitudes to Money
You will begin to understand why there is a need to change your attitude towards money as it can make your life a whole lot easier if managed correctly just as it can present you with ongoing stress if it is mishandled. The fact that you have created a problem of excess debt is due to having the wrong attitude towards money.
By going through the process of preparing a budget and seeing exactly where your money has been going and how much waste there has been you will be able to change your ways and never get in a similar situation again.
When you consider the things you might have been able to do with that 'lost' money you will begin to see that the alternatives are very often so much more appealing and the habit of frittering away funds will be able to be corrected.
Often the amount that people waste on minor expenses, such as daily coffees and takeaway foods can represent a luxury holiday once a year and surely that would be much more appealing.
Money is not something that can solve your emotional problems and spending money on luxury items that aren't necessities might give you some short term satisfaction but the long term stress and worry that excess debt brings with it is something that I am sure you will want to avoid ever having to deal with again.
It is your choice to take charge of your finances and it is as simple as starting a budget and setting realistic short term and long term goals and then making those goals become a reality.
Money can make you very happy and give you an excellent lifestyle if it is managed properly but even those who are earning huge incomes frequently fall into financial strife due to an inability to manage their finances. If you follow the proven steps to financial survival you will be better off than the majority of people and in the long term you will be able to afford more of the things that you desire than you would do otherwise.
Your attitude towards money and debt has a huge bearing on the quality of your lifestyle. Managing a Budget Deficit
If your expenses are greater than your income then you have to contend with a budget deficit and there are only two ways you can deal with this. You can earn more money or you can spend less - it is as simple as that. Unfortunately it is easier said than done some of the time and that's why many people get into debt in the first place by topping up the deficit with money from credit cards and other high interest loans.
Your budget will help you to focus on areas where you can cut your spending. Obviously you will be looking at luxury items first and those non-essential items that will be easy to eliminate. If you can eliminate your budget deficit by getting rid of these non-essential items then you are in luck however it might not be quite that easy for you to reduce your spending enough to make up the deficit.
If that is the case then you will have to go back over your budget again and see the areas where you can cut your spending to try to close the gap between income and expenditure.
If you are putting a percentage of your income aside a regular basis for some type of saving scheme then you might need to consider canceling that saving until you have managed to reduce your debt to such an extent that you are able to cover your costs with your income.
Once all areas of cost-cutting have been exhausted you are left with the only other alternative of increasing your income and you will need to look at whether you're able to increase your hours of work or possibly even get a second job to bring in enough additional income to cover your expenses.
One way or another unless this budget deficit is eliminated you will be destined to continue accumulating debt and the more you do that the more difficult it will be to bridge the gap. Which Debts Need Paying First The debts that need paying first are the ones that will cause you the most grief if left unpaid.
It goes without saying that taxes are at the top of the priority list as the IRS has more powers than anyone to recover the monies owed to them and failure to pay their account on time will not only result in interest but also penalties that can quickly mount up to more than the original debt.
Medical debt is also high on the list of priorities and it is essential that you look after your health and that of the members of your family. Without good health you will need more money to pay for your health care and if you can't provide sufficient health care for yourself and those who are under your care then the long term problems that can come about from that are often much more costly than the original debt.
Student loans and child care support are both top priority as they are debts where government departments get involved and they have wide reaching powers to recover monies owed to them to such an extent that they can actually make your debt reduction program more difficult to achieve.
You should learn to prioritize all aspects of your life from the debts that you need to pay first to the tasks that you need to get done each day. Time management will help you through your daily tasks and financial management will ensure that you have the least problems possible with your creditors by paying those who must be paid first.
Just because a debt collector starts putting pressure on you to pay a minor debt doesn't mean that other more important debts should wait for payment. Take control of the situation in all instances where possible and stay with the budget and the process that you have created for efficient debt control. What to do with a Budget Surplus Where there is a budget surplus you should apply those funds towards clearing the debt that you are paying the highest rates of interest on.
Where you have accounts that offer a discount for early payment you should also take advantage of those discounts by applying the budget surplus towards them.
Until you have cleared your debt you shouldn't consider using the surplus for investing, as the money you will receive from the investment, less the tax that you will pay on that income, will be less than the amount you will save in interest payments for clearing debt.
Always look for the most benefits for each dollar spent and in almost all cases there is no better benefit than clearing debt.
Of course once you get to the stage where you have your finances in order and everything is under control budget surpluses can be better spent on investing in appreciating assets such as property, provided the property market is rising, and only where you will be able to make more money from borrowing to buy the property than you would using the money elsewhere.
That is something you can look forward to once you have managed your debt and with your ability to budget well you will be able to calculate the ratio of income to expenditure and determine whether it is a good investment that you will be able to handle comfortably before you spend your money.
You will be able to make all your decisions based on simple steps that will eliminate all the guesswork and ensure that you don't get into financial difficulty again.
Sometimes you only need to change a few factors in your life to go from a budget deficit to a budget surplus and that is what you will be aiming to do as soon as possible. The more of the budget surplus you apply to debt the bigger the surplus will become and this affect begins to accelerate over time. Slashing Your Spending The first step towards eliminating debt is to look at all areas of your spending and slash the items that aren't vitally necessary for your survival. You are in survival mode now so you need to think in that manner. Luxuries are off the menu until you are in a position to sleep peacefully at night and not fear the phone ringing thinking it is a debt collector on the line.
Day to day spending of 'petty cash' adds up to a considerable amount over the course of a year and it could be enough to clear one of your outstanding high interest debts.
Even buying one coffee a day can amount to quite a bit of money at the end of the year. Not only will that reduce part of your debt but you will also be saving interest that you would have been paying on that debt and the compound effect is more significant as time goes by.
Making your own lunch and taking it to work rather than buying it from the shop can also save a lot of money and you might be doing your health a lot of good in the process by eating better food.
Cooking your evening meals at home rather than going to takeaways or restaurants is one of the best ways to start slashing your spending.
Maybe you spend a little too much on clothing and you really don't need to have the latest fashion item when other suitable clothing is still hanging in your closet unused.
Are there any places that you could walk to rather than drive the car and save money in gas?
There are so many small areas where it is quite easy to slash your spending without impacting on your lifestyle all that much and it is these little drains on your income that are happening on a regular basis that are responsible for a lot of the debt that you have to be concerned with today.
This is the sort of money that you don't even notice going out of your pocket but you do notice the debt that accumulates because before you know it your creditors are knocking on your door asking for repayment.
Prepare a shopping list before you go shopping for groceries and make sure you stick to that list rather than buying anything that catches your eye while you are in the supermarket. Supermarkets are designed specifically with the way the items are placed to make people buy and having a list of items you require before you enter the shop makes it a lot easier to manage the temptation that they put before you to buy.
Write down every dollar that you spend for the week and then add that spending up to see just how much money you waste without realizing. Add this to your budget and then work towards slashing as many areas of spending as possible. Making More Money
Besides reducing your spending and making the most of the money that you earn the other way that you can reduce debt faster is to make more money.
Whether you are self employed or work for a wage you should be looking at ways to work longer hours where possible to make more money. There are two opportunities to get ahead when doing this.
Firstly the increased income can go directly towards reducing debt and by doing that you will be reducing the interest you will be paying on that debt and secondly there is the added benefit of the fact that you be either too busy or too tired to spend money elsewhere.
Even if it is only for a short term the additional money that you will earn and can mark off against your debt can have a huge impact on the time that it will take you to reduce and eliminate your loans.
You might be able to refinance some of your loans for a shorter term by being able to make bigger monthly payments.
The additional money gives you more control to budget better and to make the most of discount opportunities and interest rebates for early repayments of loans.
If you are already working long hours and can't possibly fit in an additional job or more hours at your current job them maybe it is time to start looking around for other employment that pays you more. There are always other opportunities and even a small increase in income might be all you need to get over the next hurdle.
Ask for a pay rise and you might be pleasantly surprised to find that you get one. You need to think in a manner that you have to survive and you should take the courage to do all that you can to get through your financial turmoil.
What is worse - The stress of debt or the fear of asking for a pay rise?
You need to take action right now and you can change your future. The benefits are too great to let opportunities go by without seeing if they are available.
When it comes to debt management there is no better time than right now to make proactive steps towards resolving your problems. Handling Your Creditors
What is the best way of handling your creditors?
You will need to look at things from their point of view to understand the way that they will react to the fact that you haven't paid your account.
They have given you a product or service that has cost them in time or money and all they expect in return is for their account to be paid. They are trying to run a business and for all that you know they might be faced with financial difficulties themselves where they are reliant on getting the accounts paid on time to cover their expenditure.
So when you are faced with a situation where you can't pay your creditors you need to contact them as soon as possible to explain the situation and assure them that you will pay the account as soon as you can. You need to make them feel satisfied that they will be getting their money even though there will be a delay and that delay has only been caused because you simply have no alternative.
This communication will reduce the chances of creditors taking legal action against you to recover the money. It will make them feel a lot more comfortable than for you to remain silent and not let them know what is going on and have one month dragged into the next when your account hasn't been paid and they become ever more frustrated at the fact that you are not responding to their requests for payment.
Treat them as you would hope to be treated yourself if you were in a similar situation.
Remain in contact with them on a regular basis even as you are paying off your old debt to keep assuring them that full and final payment will be coming. This will help to build some form of trust between you and your creditor and they will begin to understand that you are making a concerted effort to clear your account. Consolidating Your Debt Consolidating your debt can help you to manage your debt more easily by helping to pay off many creditors at once with the use of another loan.
While this is generally only a transfer of debt from one place to another you can often get better interest rates on these new loans, particularly if you get it through your bank as a personal loan or by using your home as equity and that in itself can save you money.
By consolidating your debt at a lower interest rate you will be able to reduce your debt faster and in the process have the ability to pay off your high interest debts sooner.
It might also give you the ability to take advantage of saving money by making your loan repayments earlier and sometimes you can get discounts for paying debt on time.
Having one loan rather than a number of individual debts can make your budgeting a lot easier and can also reduce the number of debt collectors who could be calling at your door seeking payment of outstanding debts.
If you do decide to consolidate your debt then calculate precisely how much you need, to cover the various debts that you want to clear, and use the new loan to pay off that debt immediately otherwise you might be tempted to use the money elsewhere and in doing so create even more debt.
It might even be worthwhile having your new consolidated debt payable over a longer term to reduce your monthly payments and help you to focus on other more important or higher interest debts sooner.
The whole idea of debt consolidation is to improve your financial position and you should be looking at ways that you can do this. You must make sure that the interest payable on your new consolidated debt is fixed at a rate that you can budget for as it is too risky getting a variable interest rate loan where the rates could rise and leave you in a more difficult position than you would have been had you not consolidated.
If you are working with a credit counseling agency then discuss your intentions with them beforehand and get their expert advice on what the best solution for you will be. Credit Counseling
Credit counseling agencies can offer you a lot of help in reducing your debt. With the experience that they have they will be able to quickly sort out a budget for you and show you how to manage your budget, your income and your expenditure.
Get recommendations from people within your area who have used specific credit counseling agencies and have been pleased with the results because there are many who don't deliver what they say.
A good credit counseling agency will be able to review all aspects of your budget and set you realistic goals that you will be able to achieve.
They will understand your requirements and help you to work around your problems while still maintaining a reasonable standard of living.
They will review all your finances and make suggestions on whether or not you need to refinance, consolidate your loans, or anything else that needs immediate attention.
If you find yourself a good credit counseling agency they will work with you over the long term tuning your budget to suit as your needs change and your debts decrease.
They can also help you come to arrangements with your creditors and other lenders to help you pay off your debt and to ward off legal action for the recovery of outstanding money.
Check their fees before employing them as there are many who charge excessive amounts that will get you into more debt than they can help you get out of.
Some of these agencies are non-profit but don't assume that they are without checking their credentials and that can be done by getting a copy of an IRS approval of non-profit status. The genuine non-profit credit counseling agencies will be the cheapest but just because you won't be shelling out a lot of money doesn't mean you won't be getting the best of advice.
Often these non-profit organizations have a better understanding of the difficulties that the ordinary person faces handling their finance.
If you are to expect the best results then you will have to reveal everything you can about your income and expenditure, your debts and the problems that you have had with payment of your debts, and your credit history. It is only when they have the full picture that they will be able to make the best decisions to see you progressing towards your goal. Managing Past Due Mortgage
Nothing damages your credit history more than a foreclosure so you will want to avoid it at all costs.
Add to that the emotional strain of losing your most valuable asset and the time and effort that has gone into building your equity in your home and you can see why it is ranked as one of the most distressing events that can happen in a person's life.
The information here is a general overview of the terms that apply to most mortgages. You will need to check the terms of your mortgage to ensure that the same terms apply to you.
You will have 15 days after the due date for payment before you will be charged any penalties for late payment of your mortgage.
After that you will be charged a late fee and the bank will generally contact you to find out when payment will be made.
Once 30 days are up and you haven't made payment the bank will most certainly be in contact and need information as to why you haven't paid them. If you are still having difficulty making the payment then you should contact one of the government agencies such as the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development to get some assistance to work with your lender to resolve your payment problems.
Between 45 and 60 days the process moves to the next level where the lenders attorney will get involved and issue you with a notice of default which will detail the amount you need to pay to clear the arrears unless you have already contacted your lender to come to an arrangement for payment.
After 60 days if nothing else has been worked out you will get a notice of acceleration which means the total amount of your loan and not just the past due amount is payable in full. You will also be told the date when your property will be sold to cover the mortgage if you can't pay it beforehand.
This is the start of the foreclosure.
You still have time to avoid the loss of your house at this stage however the longer things are left the harder it gets to retain ownership. Even after 3 months and before the house gets sold the lender will usually be happy to come to a suitable arrangement where you can clear the past due and get your payments current again.
This also depends a lot on your past history and whether you have regularly missed payments.
If you fear that you will be unable to make the necessary payments due then make sure you take action as soon as possible. Contact a bankruptcy attorney as this will halt the foreclosure and allow you some time to decide whether there are any alternatives that you can look into. Automobile Debt
Along with credit cards automobile debt is one area that gets a lot of people in financial strife.
Most people don't realize that one of the most profitable parts of the car dealership business is in the financing of the motor vehicles.
There is often more money to be made from the financing than from the sale of the vehicle itself.
And guess who pays for it?
You do! And you pay considerably more for it than you would from many other types of borrowing. You are probably paying interest on not only the purchase of the vehicle but also the insurance, the warranty and any other additional items that the dealer talked you into at the point of sale.
This makes for a very expensive vehicle and before many people know it they find themselves in difficulty making the monthly payments.
So how do you get out of the situation?
You need to consider what alternatives you have to reduce your automotive debt and that might mean selling your expensive motor vehicle and getting something a little more realistic considering the situation you are in.
Cars are very often an emotional buy, where the impression that your new vehicle might have on friends, family and neighbors might influence your decision into buying a more expensive vehicle by borrowing more.
You need to look at it a bit more realistically and consider what you have to deal with on a daily basis trying to make ends meet due to your car payments and then look for a better alternative.
If you can manage with one car rather than two, then offload one and use the money from that to reduce debt.
If you can get rid of your expensive vehicle that you have financed and have sufficient funds to pay cash outright for a lower grade vehicle, provided of course that it is reliable, then that would be a wise move and have a huge impact on your monthly budget.
It could also be the fast track you need to get back into a better vehicle sooner without all the debt. Keeping a Place to Live It can be very frightening to get an eviction notice or to find that the bank is going to foreclose on your house mortgage.
Having a roof over your head is one of the essential requirements that you expect to have for you and your family and to see that security disappearing due to your inability to pay your debts is one of the worst things you could imagine.
No matter how well you get on with your landlord you have to understand that at the end of the day it is purely a business arrangement for him and money is all that really matters. It might be that the landlord is also working on a tight budget and needs your weekly payments to pay for his debts.
The first thing to do is to pay the past due amount as soon as possible. If this is not possible then work through your budget and see how you can make payments to reduce the amount as soon as you can. Once you have some figures approach your landlord and discuss your situation fully and present your plan to eliminate the debt.
The peace of mind that you give your landlord for doing this might be all that is needed to avoid an eviction.
In some situations you might even be eligible to qualify for government assistance or you could possibly get help through a church group that you belong to. You need to start asking around to find out what all your options are and the sooner you do that the better.
You might even be able to negotiate with your landlord for a reduced rate for a specific period of time to get back on your feet with the assurance that you will pay the deficit at a date that you both agree on.
Failing that you might need to cancel your lease or sub lease the accommodation to someone else while you find cheaper residence elsewhere.
Getting a roommate is another alternative that will help to share the expense.
You need to do all you can to avoid eviction as quite apart from the inconvenience of the eviction you will find it more difficult to find new accommodation with reference to your eviction on your credit report.
You might have to pay a larger than normal bond on any new rental accommodation due to your poor history. Medical Bills
As one of the leading forms of consumer bankruptcy medical debt is a major problem that many people had to contend with.
Even if you have health insurance there are quite often additional expenses when medical care is needed that can amount to quite a large sum of money. Unfortunately for those people who are already having difficulty in paying excessive debt, they quite often have to stop paying medical insurance to cover their other financial needs.
Without health coverage medical bills can build up to such an extent that there is never any likelihood of a person being able to afford to pay them.
It is easy to see why so many people are made bankrupt due to their medical debt.
Unfortunately the medical practitioners are getting tougher on having this debt paid and resort to all means available to them for the recovery of their money.
This can mean you will be getting a visit from a debt collector to recover the funds or the medical practitioner might decide to sue you for the money in which case your assets can be seized and your bank accounts frozen.
There are also becoming many more instances where people are refused medical attention simply because they haven't paid the past due debt and only cash upfront payments will see that they get the medical attention that is needed.
This is even happening to people who have been having ongoing medical care by a practitioner and have been unable to pay the full amount of that care to date. Even care for serious health problems has been refused due to monies owing.
Where possible you should always try to keep some form of health insurance cover and when needed ensure that they pay for everything that they should.
Review the expenses that are charged to you and be sure that they are correct before paying as it is common for errors to be made that can be extremely costly particularly when you're already having difficulty making ends meet.
There are some options available where you can get medical discounts and if so make the most of these and get all you can. These apply particularly to people on low income and those who don't have any form of health insurance.
Consider getting Medicaid which is available in most states to help cover any future medical expenses and also help to pay medical bills up to three months old.
Ask if you can set up an installment plan to pay off your past due medical bill to allow you to continue to receive medical care from your practitioner. Always look at all the options that you might consider available to maintain proper health care. Child Support
Child support is a high priority debt that you must pay no matter how difficult your financial position might appear to be.
There are a number of reasons why you need to make child support payments top priority. Quite apart from the fact that your children shouldn't have to suffer for your financial dilemma and the necessity for you to provide them with the necessary support to ensure their welfare is looked after, you also need to be aware of the consequences of not paying child support.
Any child support court order that was written or modified after the 31st of December 1993 will automatically be deducted from your wages if you are employed. If you are self-employed or unemployed you are still legally required to make the necessary payments.
Your failure to do so can result in various different actions being taken against you including debt collectors coming to retrieve the necessary funds, getting issued with a court order to recover the outstanding money or in some circumstances you can be put in jail until you make your past due child support payments.
You can see now why Child support is a high priority debt that needs to be paid before many other debts.
There are State Departments that have wide reaching powers to collect the past due money.
If you can't pay this money then contact them as soon as possible and work out an arrangement where you can pay off the outstanding amount by installments and then include this into your budget and prioritize it accordingly.
There are so many other areas that are affected by non-payment of child support that can impact on your ability to clear the rest of your debt including the sale of your assets to cover the cost and liens on your assets to stop you borrowing against them to clear debt.
Once your past due amount exceeds $1000 the debt will be reported to the credit reporting agencies and anyone who accesses your credit reports such as creditors, insurance companies, landlords and so on will see that you have fallen behind in your payments and this certainly doesn't help your cause when trying to sort out your debt problems.
Make it your priority and make your life easier in the process. Paying Overdue Taxes It is top priority to pay all your overdue taxes as soon as possible due to the compounding problems that occur.
With penalties and interest on overdue taxes it doesn't take long for the total to mount up where you will be paying more for those than the original amount outstanding.
Federal taxes are one of your most important debts to clear as there is no one quite as ruthless at recovering debt than the IRS. They have more powers than anyone else to recover debt.
They can take assets to cover the debt and that even includes your home so you don't want to be messing with the IRS.
If you know that you won't be able to pay your tax when it falls due then you will need to look at all alternatives and that might even include the necessity to use your credit card to pay your account simply because that will be an easier debt to manage than the IRS and the interest and penalties that they will impose.
If you have enough equity in your home then that is another solution because the interest you will pay on your home mortgage will be a lot less that the IRS interest for late payments.
You will probably be reluctant to use your house to borrow the money, and rightly so, however in the case of federal taxes you could stand to lose your house if you didn't pay anyway.
If you have already incurred penalties and interest for outstanding taxes then it is possible to come to an arrangement with the IRS where they will reduce some of these charges provided you can offer them some reasonable explanation as to why this happened. An example of this would be an illness that stopped you from working and earning enough money to make payments.
Often you can arrange a payment plan with the IRS to pay off your debt and if they agree to that use your budget to work out how much you can reasonably afford to pay without getting in difficulty and defaulting. Once you get a payment plan sorted you won't want to miss any payments under any circumstances.

#TITLE#Student Loan Debt#/TITLE#
The percentage of people who are getting behind and defaulting on the repayments of their student loans has been steadily increasing over recent years. It can be very difficult when you finally graduate and find that you owe thousands of dollars in student loan debt and the job that you have isn't paying quite enough to cover all your living expenses and the payments required on your loan.
Many students get into difficulty paying back their loans and they begin their working career with bad credit due to defaulting on their loan. You don't want this to happen and you will need to factor into your budget the repayments of the loan.
While payment is due once you graduate or stop with your education there is often a grace period of 6 to 9 months after that date, depending on the type of loan that you have. The first thing you will need to do if you are having problems paying is to determine what type of loan you have and what options are available to you.
This grace period will give you time to find a job to help make the payments.
With some loans you will begin to make interest payments immediately whereas others will allow you to pay the interest over the term of the repayments or at the end of the repayment of the actual loan.
This is why it is important for you to find out what type of loan you have and what options are available to you to help with your financial planning and make sure that you don't default on the loan repayments.
If you do default on the loan there are various consequences that you need to be aware of. The full amount of the debt could be called up for repayment in total or it could be turned over to a debt collection agency.
You could incur additional late fees and collection fees and your credit history will be damaged.
There are many more areas that will impact on your life so it is wise to work through any issue with your lending advisor and do so with the assistance of the budget that you will have already prepared. They might be able to arrange a consolidation of debt that you help you pay off your loans at a lower interest rate thereby reducing your overall payments that need to be made each month. Improving Your Credit Rating
Once you have paid back your outstanding debts you can concentrate on rebuilding your credit rating. Although you can't do anything about the bad history that you have and the fact that previous debt problems will show on your credit report for 7 ½ years you can start to rebuild your credit and eventually have more positive information on your credit report than negative.
You will do this by applying for small amounts of credit and paying them off on time all the time to start building a good credit record.
You should only start doing this once you have sorted out all your debt problems and are in a financially stable position where you know that you will be able to make all your payments on time.
If there were specific reasons why you got in debt in the first place that haven't been completely resolved then it would not be wise to get this additional credit until you have that part of your life sorted.
You will only get more credit after you have created an updated budget that will allow for the repayments and show that you will be able to manage the new debt repayments without undue stress.
Lending institutions will look at the positive results you have had with your credit in more recent times and this will make it easier for you to deal with them in the future.
While you will be wary of getting credit cards again, and rightly so, they can be useful for rebuilding your credit. To do this you will get a card that has a relatively low interest rate and a small credit limit and you can use it to buy essential items only. You will need to pay back the full amount at the end of the month so you don't start building debt again. If you purchase and pay back within the month you won't be incurring interest charges but you will be building a better credit rating. Later you can make some bigger purchases on essential items once again and then pay them off over a period of time making sure that you always pay the minimum amount required, or better still more than the required monthly payment.
After you have had your credit card operating successfully for some time and paid it off you can apply for personal loans and build your credit by paying them back in full, on time, all the time.
Eventually people will be more interested in your recent good credit history and they will not focus on the problems that you had in the past. Once You Have Control of Your Debt It is a great feeling to get on top of your debt and know that you are able to make all your payments each month and not have to worry about debt collectors or paying for your groceries but now is not the time to stop doing the things that have helped turn your life around.
You will have become accustomed to using a budget to get your life in order and take control of your money and this budgeting should continue so you can move to the next level where you have additional money that can be used for investment and adding security to your life as you age.
You will probably have a different outlook on life where you understand the difference between wants and needs and as you will have experienced the lows of constant financial stress you will not want to go back there in a hurry.
So continuing along the proven path to financial security of reducing debt and managing the daily flow of your cash will give you a lot more freedom to build wealth now rather than focusing all your energy on reducing debt. It is a more positive phase in your life and you will see how much the debt encroached on your lifestyle and freedom.
You should have adopted an attitude whereby you will only ever spend less money than you earn and where you will never buy luxury or non essential items if you have to go into debt to get them.
You will only consider debt if it is to buy an appreciating asset that will deliver you more return for your money than the amount you are paying in interest.
This new attitude will also include better time management skills and that in turn will give you more time to do the things that you like.
While those times of excessive debt are extremely hard to handle the process of reversing your monetary situation is an education that will set you up for better things in the future. Ignoring Your Debts
Ignoring your debts won't make them go away.
As much as you would like to think of something else you cannot address the situation without facing it.
If you put your head in the sand then someone is going to come along sooner rather than later and give you a big kick in the butt and it's going to hurt because you won't see it coming.
That kick will come from a creditor who you haven't contacted to work out an arrangement for payment of an outstanding debt or possibly even the bank with a notification of a pending foreclosure on your house.
You might find yourself getting a notice of eviction simply because you didn't contact your landlord to make a payment arrangement while you get your finances sorted.
You need to face the facts that you have a problem and then set yourself goals to resolving the problem. Problems that are left usually present themselves as bigger problems a short way down the line so today is the day that you need to start looking at your debts.
Taking action now can result in savings of interest and late payment fees. People who have money generally pay less than those who don't because they are able to pay debt on time and don't have to fund the additional expense of late payments in one form or another.
There is one thing that is certain and that is the fact that people who owe money might forget what they owe but those who are owed always know how much is due, so you might prefer to forget but your creditors won't.
Also - more often than not a creditor will adopt a far more positive attitude towards you if you explain the situation you are in and let them know that you are currently working towards full and final payment of the debt as soon as possible.
Communication can do wonders for your debt reduction program. Missing Your Car Payments Missing your car payments can create all sorts of problems in many different areas. As most of us rely on a car to get us to work it is essential to make sure you have enough money set aside to make the payments and if your budget shows that this is placing too much of a strain on your finances then you might need to downgrade to something more affordable.
Finance companies are legally entitled to repossess your car without getting a court order if you miss your payments and they can do so without warning. When this happens the repossession will be noted on your credit records and will remain there for the next seven and a half years so this is one area of your spending where you will need to make the appropriate decisions in advance of anything happening.
Once your car has been repossessed the finance company will generally advertise it for auction to help recover the outstanding amount of the loan.
Unfortunately for you the problem of debt doesn't stop there. If the vehicle is sold for less than the amount still owing on it, plus the costs involved in repossession and selling the vehicle, then you will be liable to repay that deficit to the finance company.
So you will have lost the use of your car which will impact on your ability to get to work and earn a living and you are still lumbered with the debt that will need to be repaid to the finance company.
If you are struggling to make the payments it is better to contact the finance company in advance of any action to see whether you can refinance the vehicle over a longer period where the repayments will be a little less and more manageable. They might also give you the opportunity to pay off any outstanding debt by coming to a suitable arrangement. This could give you enough time to sell the vehicle paying off the loan and finding something that is more suitable for your current financial position.

#TITLE#Trying to Get by Without a Budget#/TITLE#
Don't even try to get by without a budget as you will be setting yourself up for failure. It's as simple as that.
Without a budget you can't hope to have control over your finances as most people will find that once they start doing a budget they realize all the additional expenditure they have in their life that they hadn't noticed in the past.
It is the little bits and pieces of expenditure that accumulate into a bigger debt problem.
Creating a budget is one of the first things that you should do and using that budget daily will keep you on track to getting out of debt.
If someone were to ask you right now to write down exactly how much it costs you to live day to day, week to week, and month to month -- could you do it?
If you are honest you would probably have to admit that it would take quite some time as you would have to look through your card statements, monthly bills, shopping lists and more to get a clear picture of what money you are spending.
In addition to that you would need to look at any expenses that occur at irregular intervals either quarterly or once yearly.
You would also need to make allowances for additional spending during the festive season and the extra interest you would need to pay on the credit card debt that you would drum up over that period.
On top of that you would need to make allowances for maintenance on your vehicles and household maintenance.
The more you look into the expenditure the more that will be revealed and that is why a budget is so important. Most people get a big shock when they prepare a budget for the first time as they never realize how much money they spend on things that they don't think about.
And that is why you must have a budget. There is no suitable alternative. You can't run a business at its best without a budget and you can't run a household without one either.

#TITLE#Credits Cards#/TITLE#
No doubt if you have got financial problems then you have already got credit cards that are probably maxed out to the limit and costing you big bucks in interest each month.
Credit cards have got more people into financial difficulty than anything else and the banks are only too willing to give out more cards and increase credit limits encouraging people to spend more and more money.
So what can you do about your credit cards?
Well if you are managing to make minimum payments each month the first step is to cut them up and not use them any more because that puts a hold on that source of spending and immediately brings into effect some control over your finances.
You should certainly stop using your credit cards but you might need to keep them intact in the interim if you have debt where you are paying even higher interest rates than the cards, to allow you to juggle your money around so you're paying off your high interest debts first.
You might be in a situation where your credit cards don't have the highest interest rates of all your debts so rather than paying them off target the other debt before your credit cards.
You should look at consolidating your debts and paying off your credit cards with one loan of a lower interest rate. This will not only stop you from buying things on the card but the savings on interest can go towards debt reduction.
Credit cards make it all too easy for people with bad habits to slip up and fall back on those bad habits by buying things that they think they need just because they want them. Don't fall into that trap and if you feel that you might then make sure the cards are rendered useless so you can't use them.
Consider how good your life would be now if you had no credit card debt and no need to pay installments each and every month. Surely that's enough to make you want to cut them up right now and never use them again. Borrowing Against Your House There are pro's and con's for borrowing against your home and they all need to be taken into consideration before you proceed with any additional borrowing.
On the one hand the money you can borrow on your home will be of a lower interest rate than most other forms of loans and this can help you to reduce your monthly repayments by using the house money for clearing more expensive debt. With the ability to spread the term of repayment over a much longer period you can generally make quite an impact on reducing your monthly outgoings.
Use your budget to determine how much you are paying on all your outstanding debt and then calculate what the payments would be if they were all consolidated under the one loan against your house. This will show whether that is the best decision to make to help you manage your finances more easily.
Where house prices are rising, you will have increasing equity in the home that will allow you to borrow more against it since the time you originally arranged your mortgage.
The downside of borrowing against your home is where you are already struggling to make your home mortgage payments and by borrowing more you will be putting your house on the line and risk losing it. You certainly don't want the banks to foreclose on your loan and if that looks eminent then it would be unwise to increase your borrowings.
If you calculate that you will not be able to make the additional mortgage payments then it is better to sell off other items that you have borrowed against to reduce debt elsewhere rather than risk losing your home.
It might also be necessary to consider downsizing on your home and buying something of a lower value so you can reduce your mortgage accordingly until you get your feet back on the ground.
Your home is your most valuable asset and you should always do all you possibly can to retain ownership of it. High Risk Loans It is often tempting to get a loan from a non-traditional lender such as a bank or a reputable finance company when you are having trouble paying off your debts. Usually these lenders will use your house, car or other assets as collateral.
They will 'sell' their service to you as a solution to help get out of debt whereas the reality of the situation when dealing with such lending institutions is the fact that you are more likely to get into even more financial strife and lose the assets that have been put up as collateral for the loan.
If you look closely at the terms of the contract with such loans you will find that you will be paying excessive interest payments and that is precisely what you should be trying to avoid as the big interest loans are what gets most people in trouble in the first place.
A lot of these finance companies work on the basis that they know you will eventually fall behind in your payments and they structure their business where they will repossess your assets to cover the past due monies.
High risk loans should never be an option worth considering simply because there is no benefit to be gained at all from getting such a loan and they only appeal to those people who are in desperate situations who can never make good the payments anyway.
More often than not the interest that you will be paying over the term of a high risk loan is almost as much as the original amount borrowed. Even if the loan is only for a short term you will be paying excessive interest rates and there is always a better alternative even if you need to come to an arrangement with other people you have borrowed money from to pay off outstanding debt over an extended period. Borrowing from Friends and Family
There are many factors that you need to consider before borrowing from friends and family.
First and foremost you need to discuss, with whoever you are borrowing from, your financial situation so they can make a decision whether or not to lend you money based on whether they are comfortable that you can repay them.
There is no quicker way to lose friends or cause family strife than to get in a situation where you have borrowed money from them and cannot pay it back when they need it.
It is also recommended that you only borrow money from people who have excess funds that they have invested elsewhere and where you can pay them interest for the use of those funds so that they aren't losing out on the deal.
In situations like this you will be able to borrow money at a lower rate than you could get from any of the financial lending institutions and the person lending you the money could also get a better return than they would get by investing their money in those same institutions or at the bank.
So it is quite possible it could be beneficial to both parties in the deal but once again I need to stress the importance of total disclosure of your financial position as they need to know that to determine whether they are happy that you are a safe investment or not.
Friends or family should not feel obliged to lend you money no matter how bad your financial position is because it could put them in a similar situation.
It is better fair you to leave the risk with financial lending institutions if you have any doubts whatsoever of paying back the money borrowed from those close to you.
Some people are only too willing to take advantage of the opportunity to earn a little more interest and if that's the case then well and good - they have decided that you are a worthwhile investment. Let them have a look at all your books and your budget and possibly even get them to help you work through your budget and to sort out a plan of repayment for their loan to you. Handling the Stress
There's no doubt about the fact that being in financial difficulty is one of the most stressful things that you will need to handle in your life. How you handle the stress will determine how well you come out of your financial problems and more often than not how quickly you can turn your life around so that your debts are paid and you don't need to deal with money problems on that scale again.
Stress can cause all sorts of problems and in the extreme it can cause you to become depressed and not be able to go about your everyday tasks including your employment that will help you to get out of your financial problems.
People all handle stress in different ways but there are certain things that you can do that will ensure your stress levels will be lowered and they don't even need to cost you any money.
Simply taking a bit of time out for a walk or some form of exercise will go a long way to relieving stress. Yoga is probably one of the best forms of exercise to relieve stress and you don't even need to go to classes to do yoga. You can even get books and DVDs from the local library that will give you enough basic exercises to do to ensure that you maintain a better balance in your life.
Your energy levels are liable to increase which will help you to handle more throughout the day and in doing so get to your goals sooner.
Simply having a little quiet time to yourself and reading a novel can be enough to give your mind the rest from the constant worry of the debts, creditors and juggling the money to make ends meet.
Many financial advisers even make a small allowance in the budget to allow for a reality check to help you remember there is more to life than just worrying about money and on occasion you can spend a few extra dollars on something that will reward you for the efforts in tackling your debt problem. Letting Others Know of Your Situation
Quite often it is better to let others know of your situation and while you might feel somewhat embarrassed to tell friends and family that you've fallen into financial difficulty you might be quite surprised to know that many of them have been in a similar situation in the past or are currently in the same situation as you.
If anything you might be helping them to address their financial problems at the same time.
The reason why I say that it is often better to tell others about your finances is to make them aware that you are unable to do many of the things that you would previously have done such as going out to parties or clubs and spending up large on drinks and entertainment until you can get yourself in a better financial position.
It often takes a lot of the pressure off when people know that you don't have the money to spend and it allows you to adjust your lifestyle accordingly to help cope with the situation.
Often friends and family will be only too willing to help in many different ways whether it be, by offering you the opportunity to do more work to earn more income or to help you make better decisions with your budget and other aspects of your finance to help you get back on track.
Sometimes it is good to have somebody to talk to who you can trust to relieve some of the tension of having to deal with the situation on your own.
Others who have gone through similar circumstances as yourself will be able to give you a lot of feedback on what they did to reach their goals were they might be able to recommend other people who helped them along the way such as financial advisers, bank managers or accountants. Putting Things into Perspective Sometimes the overwhelming size of your debt and the fact that it has gone on for so long makes it difficult for you to put things into perspective and handle the situation in a manner that is as stress free as possible and will result in an optimum solution.
Now consider this for one moment because it affects a lot of people who are in dire financial straits -- your health and well-being are more important than any problems that you have with finance at the moment.
That and the well-being of those you are responsible for, particularly if you have young children is your number one concern.
If you make sure that that part of your life is being handled in the best manner possible, and only after that has been attended will you be able to start making moves towards sorting out your financial position.
Some of the richest people in the world have been bankrupt at some stage in their life and while hopefully that will be something that you never have to deal with, it is sometimes worthwhile just considering what is the worst scenario that could happen to you as far as your finances go.
Once you have dealt with that you will be able to put everything else in your life into perspective and will help you to deal with the situation at hand in a more orderly and businesslike manner where emotions aren't going to hinder your chance of reaching your goal of financial freedom.
Too many people have let financial problems get out of perspective in their life and cause them to do things that they will regret for the rest of their life. It is not necessary and it is certainly not wise no matter how bad the situation might seem at the moment to let money ruin your life.
There is always an answer and to some people the path to recovery is just a little longer than others but provided you are moving in the right direction you will certainly get there one day. Habits and How You Got There
The situations we find ourselves in and in particular where this involves financial difficulty are often caused by the habits that we have. Humans are habitual beings and most actions in our life are caused by the habits that we have adopted which are very often difficult to break.
None more so than habitual spending on the wrong things or the things that we don't need but feel we want.
This is going to take a bit of work on your part to have an honest look at the way that you spend money and see if there are any habits that are attached to your spending that caused you to get in your current financial strife.
This might be as simple as having the desire to have the latest fashion clothing at all times or to be seen in a brand new car.
It could be that you prefer to eat out all the time rather than cook your own meals at home because that is something that you've always done.
There could be any number of habits that are causing you to spend money were you shouldn't.
What is causing you to spend money when you should be saving?
What is causing you to go into debt and the stress that goes with it for the sake of having what everybody else has or what currently happens to be trendy?
You could just be in the habit of buying the wrong food every time you go shopping simply because you don't have a shopping list written in advance where you know exactly what you should be buying and sticking to that list rather than buying whatever takes your fancy.
Sit down with a pen and paper and write down the areas where you think habits are affecting your life and your decisions with the handling of your finances. Most people if they are honest will be able to come up with a reasonably long list of things that are affecting their decisions in life and once these are revealed you can go about changing them and thereby changing your whole lifestyle where you understand the importance of the balance that will bring about health, happiness and financial well-being. The Future
What will the future hold for you once you get over your debt and finally become financially free of the burden that has stressed you for so long and stopped you from sleeping at night?
With your debt cleared, and excess funds available each month over and above your expenditure, you need to consider the best way of handling this additional money.
What you don't want to do is to get back into the situation you were before where you start spending on things that you don't need and building your debt back up again.
Just consider how much better your life is without the debt and compare that to the time when you were always stressed out and finances were on your mind day night. Then ask yourself was it worth it and do you want to go back there.
Most people will admit that it is unpleasant to be weighed down with the stress of overwhelming debt and by having followed the process that reduced and then eliminated your debt you can continue to use that basic model of having a budget and sticking to that budget to build up a nest egg of funds that can ensure a good quality of life as you age.
You will probably have a different attitude to wants and needs and find that the quality of life doesn't depend on the material things that you own but rather the things that you do that are memorable on a day-to-day basis.
You need to continue setting goals but now the goals won't be to reduce debt but rather to invest money that will create long-term wealth for your future.
A future without these is the most wonderful position to be in as that gives you the freedom to do what you like when you like and that is more than most people will ever get to appreciate. Learning from Your Situation
While it might be hard to look at your current situation with a positive attitude there is a good opportunity for you to learn from this and ensure that it doesn't happen again.
By following positive steps towards reducing your debt and understanding why you got in debt in the first place you will know precisely how it happened and what to do to avoid it happening again.
You will have a better understanding of the things that you need to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life and those things that you might want but not need that can cause financial turmoil and all the stress that goes with debt levels you can't handle.
You will learn how to budget and have total control over your finances and know when you can and can't buy those luxury items.
You will also learn a lot about time management and that will enhance all aspects of your life as you will be able to work less, make more money and have more time with good time management.
One of the most important things that you will learn is having control over your life. This will reduce your stress on all levels and stress causes distress so you can look forward to having a happier life too.
You will learn what is most important in life and things such as your health and welfare will take precedence over electronic gadgets that are more likely than not harming your health in one way or another.
It is in these times of difficulty and seemingly endless stress that we learn the most important things in life.
The education that you get from working through this process of debt elimination and debt freedom will mean you will have more control over your finances than the majority of the population and in doing do you can look to bigger and better things in the future that you will be able to pay for in cash should you decide to reward yourself. Containment of Debt
Sometimes when you still trying build up your income to cover your outgoings it is quite difficult to keep on top of specific items of debt on a monthly basis. One such area a lot people have problems with is credit card debt with most people having several credit cards and a lot of money owing on each one.
A technique that you can use while you are building up your income or eliminating other debt is to contain specific areas of debt such as your credit cards.
Let's say you have five credit cards and they are all almost at the limit. It's likely that payments of these will be at various different times throughout the month so with a little bit of planning you can create a situation where you have containment of your credit card debt by using a revolving payment solution.
What this means is you pay off what is required for your monthly payment of one credit card and then draw out sufficient funds to pay off the monthly payment on the next card and so forth. So one card pays the next card and you are containing the debt within each of these cards are not spending any more money on the cards while using one to finance the other until you can start chipping away at the balance.
All you will need to concentrate on is the actual interest portion of the debt in total of all the cards for the month.
While this is not the optimum solution it might be your only alternative until you can get on top of some of your other debt so you will need to determine when you're working at your budget whether this is something that you will need to do and then you will need to work out exactly how much the interest portion will be and calculate how you're going to come up with that portion from your income.
Once you have this sorted and can manage this from one month to the next you have contained that particular debt for the short term until you can address the problem.
You will only do this if you have other forms of debt with the interest rates that are higher and you will want to reduce the debt on the ones with the highest interest rates first. It might even be necessary to get a low interest credit card to help you to do this. Wants and Needs
Now this is the area that gets most people in financial difficulty in the first place.
There is a huge difference between wants and needs and if you honestly look at your financial position and consider how you have built up the debt that you are currently faced with you might just find that it is due to over expenditure on wants.
Needs are those factors that are required for you to lead a healthy happy life on a daily basis to maintain good health in mind and body for you and those whom you are responsible for.
Good food, shelter, health care - These come under the banner of needs because these are the simple things in life that you need to get by.
DVD players, alloy wheels on your car, the latest designer clothing, cigarettes etc - These are wants and there is certainly no need to have them in your life.
These are the things that get people into trouble. These are the things that cause your debt and stress and detract from your lifestyle.
These are the things that make people miserable at the end of the day because you still have to pay for them, you don't need them and you certainly don't need the debt that comes with them.
Take a look around your house and see how many items there are that fall under the category of wants, and then ask yourself how often do you use these items and what sort of pleasure have they given you compared to the distress that you are now feeling with the debt you have to pay back.
Sure there might be some items that you still get pleasure from such as playing on your Playstation but consider once again how the time that you waste on the Playstation could be better spent on something more productive or something that could improve your health and well-being such as a walk or a jog in the park.
Can you convert some of those items into cash? Of course you can and if you aren't using them then wouldn't it be better to sell them and put that money towards your debt.
Just understanding the difference between wants and needs might be all that you need to turn your life around and ensure that you never become overburdened with debt again. Health and Welfare It's common knowledge that the people who suffer the most from ill health and the inability to take sufficient care of their health and welfare are those people who are in debt and don't have sufficient income to see their doctor or to get a problem sorted when it first occurs.
You need to understand that without good health everything becomes more difficult including your ability to make money and your ability to reduce and eliminate debt.
You can't help yourself to move forward if you're in such a state that it is difficult to do what is necessary to achieve your goals.
Your health is of the utmost importance and this is something that you need to take care of for the rest of your life and letting any aspects of health deteriorate during these times of financial turmoil could mean that you require ongoing medical expenditure for the rest of your life.
When it comes to the crunch it is better to be bankrupt than sick in hospital. You can certainly turn your finances around by following the right steps and focusing on achieving your goals however if you let your health deteriorate to such an extent that you have to live with problems for the rest of your life then no amount of money you make in the future will be able to get back that good health.
While you will be looking to reduce your daily spending and reduce your food bill you also need to be aware that you should only buy foods and drink that will help you maintain good health.
Don't buy soda drinks when drinking water is better for you. Don't buy takeaways when cooking your own meals is healthier and less expensive.
You will even save money on gas from not having to drive down the road to buy your fast food if you are cooking at home.
You can save money and maintain your health and welfare and that is something that you will need to consider when you are preparing your budget.
Consider the expense of becoming diabetic. The debt problem that faces you now might be a godsend as it could make you look at the other aspects of your life that are out of balance and make amends. Focus and Progress
Focus is something that not a lot of people are good at.
How often do you start something and then before you are finished you're thinking about something else or changing your mind about whether you should finish or not?
It is common practice with most people to do this and the result of a lack of focus is a lack of achievement.
The only way you are going to progress towards your goal of eliminating your debt is to focus on the task at hand and make positive steps every day based on the plan that you are setting forth to achieve that goal.
Preparing a budget helps you to focus on your income and expenditure.
Writing down daily tasks helps you to focus on achieving those tasks each day.
Without these processes set out for you to follow it is very difficult to focus on what you need to do to get out of the situation you are an.
By focusing on your goals regularly you actually change the way that you think about money and spending and this will remove the bad habits that have got you in this situation in the first place.
The more that you focus and gain the progress towards your goal, the easier it will become for you to focus on more and more aspects of your life and finish things that may have been left in limbo for some time.
If you are the type of person who procrastinates a lot, then try focusing on just a few smaller things to begin with and they will be the things that you write down on your to-do list each day. Those things that need immediate attention based on your budget.
Start the action that is necessary to achieve the required goal and don't stop until you have finished it. Don't move on to the next item on the list until that item has been completed. This is the way to focus and it will bring you the results that you desire.
It is a lot easier than you think to become a more focused person. It is certainly a lot easier to live where you don't have the financial burden that comes about from not being focused. Take Time Out You might feel like there is no time for you to rest and relax and you feel guilty about the fact that you do occasionally take a bit of time out.
Here is the fact of the matter -- no matter how much work you feel you need to do or how much income you feel you need to make or how many people are pressing you to get your accounts paid, you still need to consider your health and wellness and that means that occasionally you need to give both your mind and your body a break and take some time out.
A walk in the park can energize you and can be sufficient to help you achieve some of those goals that you may have been procrastinating about.
It can help you maintain a better level of health that will help you to cope better with your current situation.
It can help reduce stress considerably and help you sleep better at night and make more positive decisions towards achieving your goals.
Nobody can go on forever working and trying to cope with overwhelming debt without having a break now and again.
If you don't have a break then you are highly likely to have a breakdown and that will place even more burden on your financial position and your ability to pay your debts from being able to earn a decent income.
You need to look at this debt reduction process as various steps towards a long-term goal and one of the steps to that goal is to maintain your ability to earn an income and to whittle away at your debt.
Yoga and meditation are excellent forms of helping you to cope with many different situations and is well as energizing you they will help to calm your mind and stop you constantly thinking about the problems you face.
It doesn't take long to fit a little bit of yoga or even a walk into your daily lifestyle but the benefits that can be gained from this are long reaching and will see that you come out the other end full of energy and debt free. Getting the Best Advice
You need to get the best advice to make the right decisions with anything in life and getting good debt management advice is of the utmost importance because it can have such a huge impact on your life now and in the future.
If you have debt problems that are manageable with a good plan of your own and a suitable budget then you probably won't need to seek any advice from third parties.
For many people getting others to help with good advice on debt management can result in the elimination of the debt problem a lot sooner.
Trained debt management professionals are dealing with these problems on a daily basis and they also have the knowledge of the various ways you can reduce the interest rates you are paying on your loans and often have business arrangements that can help you to consolidate your debt and pay off your creditors.
If you believe you need some assistance then there are consumer credit counseling agencies that will help you find the right solution. Talk to people you know and ask if any of them can recommend someone to help you.
There are some unscrupulous dealers in the market who are only there to make as much money for themselves but fortunately they are in the minority and you will soon see whether they will be suitable for you after an initial interview by seeing whether they are asking the correct questions and whether they have a specific plan for a budget to set you in the right direction.
Personal recommendations from people you trust will help you decide on the firm you will employ.
Check out their costs in advance and ask as many questions as possible as you won't want to spend money on them in excess of the service they are providing as at the end of the day that will be better spent reducing debt. Limiting Luxuries
There is a big difference between wants and needs and when you are faced with excess debt then the only thing you really need to focus on are your needs and how you are going to pay for them.
You don't need to own the latest wide screen television or an X-Box or PlayStation. If you've got overwhelming debt then one of the first things you need to do is start limiting luxuries. Now this doesn't mean you are going to downgrade your lifestyle at all because along with all these luxuries that you've been purchasing your lifestyle has been downgraded considerably with the increased stress and financial burden you are faced with every day.
Now consider how much happier you would be if you didn't have to pay back all that debt. Consider how much happier you would be if you didn't have to think about how you are going to pay the food bill at the end of the week.
Once you start putting these factors into perspective you can see how the purchase of luxuries that might possibly give you a few moments of pleasure have added a whole lot more stress and strain to your lifestyle and have actually limited the things that you can do on a daily basis.
Wouldn't you like to trade in some of those appliances that you never use for less stress and more time to get out and enjoy yourself? Wouldn't you like to trade them in with a chance to take a short holiday away from the worry is that are constantly on your mind at the moment?
Now is the best time for you to start looking at these luxuries and consider the benefits they have given you and the downside that you are living with.
When in debt limit or eliminate your luxuries and those that you have and don't need - cash up and use the money to pay off some of your debt. You will be a lot happier in the long-term. Saving Money At some stage you will want to begin saving money to cover costs that will be occurring in the future, however until you have paid off your debt that is costing you money in interest and penalties it is not wise to save money.
You need to reduce and eliminate your debt thereby cutting off the drain on your income that is required to cover the interest costs and by doing so you will be gaining a lot more benefit than trying to build up a surplus of funds in your account.
You will always earn less money from the interest of funds invested than it will be costing you for the interest you are paying on your debts.
Because of this if you were to save money and not pay off debts it would be a backward step as it is in effect costing you the difference between the after-tax interest you could be earning on your investment money and the full amount of interest that you are paying on your debt.
In addition to paying interest on your debt often you will be missing out on discounts for early payment of accounts and this is an additional 'saving' in effect that you will be losing out on by not making payments on time.
The best action you can always take is to reduce debt where possible unless that debt is associated with an income earning asset or something that you will make a capital gain on over and above the expenditure that you have to make on the interest by having that debt.
Once you have cleared all your debt then you can start thinking about making savings but it is not a good business decision to do that before the due time even though it might make you feel good.
Eliminate your most costly debts first, the rest of your debts second and then start saving your excess funds when all else has been taken care of. Time Management It is often said that the people who have the most time those who are the busiest simply because busy people tend to manage their time a lot better.
Time is money and you need to manage your time as well as all other aspects of your life.
By managing your time well you are controlling your life and this will flow over into all other areas of the day to day running of your household and your finances and will make the management of those factors considerably easier to achieve because you will have planned the time to take care of that aspect of your life.
Having the burden of financial debt and the necessity of juggling money from one place to another to cover costs here and there takes up a lot of time and this is lost time that could be used for other more productive purposes.
While you are getting your finances in order there will be additional time needed and that is something that you will have to accept however if you have a plan and a goal and you set yourself specific tasks to do throughout the day then you will find that you get a lot more done and you leave yourself some time to simply take time out.
It is essential that you do take time out even if you think you can't afford the time or the money because maintaining a happy and positive state of mind and good health is essential for you to get to the next stage of this journey.
You don't need to spend money when you take time out and often it is the things that cost nothing that will have the most benefits for you such as a walk in the park or a swim at the beach where you can forget about life a short while and think about normal things and where you might be in a years time.
Good time management will allow you to enjoy that part of your lifestyle during this time of financial stress. Positive Thinking It might come as some surprise to you that you need to focus on positive thinking to get through periods of financial difficulty and to help you to turn around your financial situation where you have sufficient funds to cover your day to day expenditure without being constantly stressed.
It is only natural that somebody who has had financial turmoil for some time, to begin thinking negatively and wonder whether they will ever get out of the difficult situation that they are in.
If you are currently faced with huge debt that you feel so overwhelming you can't see the forest for the woods then it is going to take you some time to start feeling better about yourself and thinking positively towards the future.
It is however something that you need to focus on because the power of positive thinking will help you to get back on your feet a lot sooner. It will help you to make better decisions and give you the energy to focus on bringing in more income and coping with the stress that you are currently under.
Positive thinking will also be picked up by other people such as your creditors who will see that even you believe you are going to make good on their debts and give them the confidence to possibly allow you a bit more time to pay back the money that is owing to them.
If you approach them with a negative attitude then they can become very uneasy as to whether they will get their money back or not and often this is all that is needed for creditors to send the debt collectors in.
Positive thinking is a goal that needs to be added to the other goals that will see you eliminating debt and leading a more positive and productive life where you will have more control over all aspects of your life including the running of your household and your finances.
Run Your Home Like a Business You need to run your home like a well oiled business. That is the only way that you will be able to get what you need with the income that you are earning and resources that you have available to you without increasing your debt.
A business cannot run and survive for any length of time if it constantly has to borrow more and more money to cover the costs.
Eventually the business will go under and that is precisely what will happen if your home is run in such a manner.
Any successful business manager will understand that the income needs to cover the costs for the business to survive and you have to look at running your home in a manner that will help it to survive long-term and for that to happen you need to weigh up your income and expenditure and make sure that your expenditure doesn't exceed your income.
If you think along the terms of your home being a business you're more likely to take a better account of the money and see where it is getting lost and where it does not need to be spent.
You will be quite surprised at the amount of waste of funds in most homes and most successful business managers would be appalled at the finances of the average household.
Even people who successfully run their own business often have their own home finances in a shambles simply because it is not common practice for most people to run their home as a business and constantly monitor the flow of money.
By creating your own budget that sets out all the expenditure and the available income you are instantly creating a situation where your household will be able to be run in a more businesslike manner and the efficiency that you will obtain from doing this will ensure that you have more money available to cover your costs and in most cases without affecting the quality of your lifestyle at all. Setting Goals The quickest way to achieve your goal of reducing and eliminating your debt is to actually set some goals in the first place.
Unless you have a specific goal in mind then it is all too easy to drift and not focus on the task of reducing your debt.
The best way to set goals is to sit down with a pen and paper and actually write down what you want to achieve. Once it is in writing you can refer back to it and adjust your goals along the way.
Having written goals to look at is an incentive to achieve more and do better than normal.
It has been shown in many tests that this is the quickest and best way for people to actually achieve their goals.
You should make your goals realistic and have long term and short term goals.
So when you are writing down these goals, you should determine where you want to be in a year's time or even five or 10 years time.
You should also set goals that you will like to achieve in the next week or month and that might be something as minor as being able to cope with the current budget that you set yourself for your food shopping.
Once you achieve a goal - even a small one - you are well on the road to success in achieving your bigger goals and as you see more and more of these goals become achievable it will build your confidence to get out of debt and to maintain that debt free status for the rest of your life.
No matter how small these achievements might be you need to consider the fact that it was all those small extra items that you purchased along the way that got you into debt in the first place and reversing the trend by making small changes in a positive direction will go a long way to eliminating your debt before you realize it.
